Big Ed is really Ed Brown, famously recognized as a participant on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. His most famous storyline was with Rosemarie Vega in season four. Fans questioned him for his interest in a younger woman. But upon that dramatic separation, Big Ed found himself on The Single Life, as Monsters & Critics reports, on a quest to find new love in another country again.

Big Ed embarked on a new relationship with Liz Woods and received another round of criticism for the age gap as well as his apparent pressure for her to settle down with him. Lots of arguments ensued, which makes for great reality TV. But in the end, Big Ed and Woods are back together and now engaged. And that’s not all he has to celebrate.

Big Ed’s gubernatorial campaign

In a series of recent Instagram posts, Big Ed shared another announcement. He’s planning to conquer politics and is running for governor in California in the 2023 election. The San Diego resident cited big plans, including a renewed focus on recognizing trade schools as colleges and advocating for small business owners. Those all sound like noble causes. But as you can imagine, Big Ed is already taking heat.

Some are already criticizing his poor taste in an announcement. His post featured him with friends, toasting with a wine glass, potentially intoxicated. Screen Rant pointed out that Big Ed had to be corrected on what year he was planning to run. He does appear to have some supporters. But many question the validity and seriousness of his intentions.

For now, aside from his series of posts regarding his campaign platform and gubernatorial candidacy, no other official statements have been released. So, while the flurry of responses online mounts — both in support of his move to politics and vehement oppositions — no one knows for sure if it’s the real deal or a publicity stunt.

Why ‘Big Ed’ Brown is so notorious on ’90 Day Fiancé

Big Ed isn’t necessarily receiving mixed messages about his candidacy because of his fame with 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. He’s become a notorious character for other reasons that might weigh on voters’ minds.

Some of the initial distaste for him developed because, on the show, he always seems to have a discourteous demeanor. In addition to criticism for his interest in much younger women, he earned even more blowback for how he treated them.

On more than one occasion, for example, Rose Vega felt belittled by Big Ed. He routinely commented on her look and physical appearance. At one point, Vega was expected to take STD tests, while Big Ed refused his. In other circles, Big Ed has been accused of past sexual harassment.

It’s hard to say if Big Ed really plans to run for governor. It’s even harder to say that, if he were to run, many people would vote for him. He might just be better off sticking to the 90 Day Fiancé franchise.
