Who is Tony Garnett ?
A British father of two left his partner after falling in love with a 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee who came to live with them to escape war.
Tony Garnett, 29, and his partner Lorna, 28, took in Sofiia Karkadym in early May, but just 10 days later, their seemingly happy marriage broke down when he ran off with the refugee.
The security guard, who lives in Bradford, West Yorkshire, says he has fallen in love with the 22-year-old and wants to spend the rest of her life with her.
Sofia, who fled the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, said she “liked” Tony as soon as she saw him and that the couple is having their own “love story”.
Admitting the pain this will cause Lorna, Tony said that he “discovered a connection with Sofia like he’s never had before,” adding that they “know this is right.”

Tony, who speaks Slovak, was talking to his future mistress while she was speaking Ukrainian, since the two languages are mutually intelligible.

“We got along really well, but at the time it was just that, although I can see why Lorna started to feel jealous and resentful towards her,” Tony said.
As the days went by, Sofia joined Tony at the gym and they talked in his car, while at home they got physically closer.
“At home I realized that we were looking for excuses to touch and rub against each other, it was very flirty, but at that stage nothing more than that happened,” she said.
“Although it was quite innocent, it was causing arguments. I can understand that. When I arrived at night, Sofia was the one who had prepared a meal for me to try.
As the pair grew closer and closer, Lorna got “very jealous,” says Tony, and began to wonder why Sofia was following him around all the time.
The couple then packed up and moved in with Tony’s mom and dad, though they are looking at properties to move into.
After their 10-year relationship ended in just 10 days, Tony says he feels bad and it’s not Lorna’s fault.
I am so sorry for what Lorna is going through, this was not her fault and it was not because of anything she did wrong.
“We never set out to do this, it wasn’t planned and we didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
