Back in May, RedState covered Brave Books’ The Plot Against the King, featuring Kash Patel, the Former Chief of Staff for the Department of Defense and Deputy Assistant to Donald J. Trump.
But that was only Part 1 of a three-part trilogy. On Tuesday, Part 2: The Plot Against the King 2: 2,000 Mules launched on Tuesday. Part 2 launches off Dinesh D’Souza’s hit film 2,000 Mules, which focused on geo-tracking of mules paid to illegally pick up and drop off mail-in ballots during the 2020 election. Patel takes the Medieval storyline from Part 1 and crafts the facts outlined in 2,000 Mules and the subsequent exploration of voter fraud with an engaging, kid-friendly narrative.
“Yeah, our pitch is to focus on the power of, you know, teaching the kids the truth. And if we can relate it to something historical in a fun way, then we do that.
“You know none of our books say you should be a Democrat or liberal or Republican or conservative. They kind of just stress on what is happening, that we will set it in Medieval times, and make it fun and have some characters. We’ll just say, you know, something like doing the right thing or the truthful thing is difficult, and that’s sort of what happened in this time in history, and hopefully the kids attach to the message more than anything else.”
It was a fortunate happenstance that the release did not coincide with Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday. However, it happened to coincide with the first hearing of Special Master Raymond Dearie, the retired judge appointed by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, regarding the documents taken by the FBI during the Trump-Mar-a-Lago Raid.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Special Masters are appointed after the search of a law office (or in this case, a President’s residence), to ensure attorney-client communications are protected. Judge Dearie holds a more complex role, as outlined by Judge Cannon’s ruling. Dearie is tasked with deciding whether documents are protected by “executive” privilege, a legal doctrine that shields some communications between a president and advisers from public view.
In my interview with Patel, he talked about the reasons behind why a Special Master is important, how it can be used to document history, and what the potential outcome could portend for the future.
“Well, the different thing about judicial rulings is, you know, they’re singular. So, the court will speak, and whether the media covers it, I don’t know. But you can’t really say, oh, the court meant this. The rulings are pretty definitive.
“It’s like, that’s why you go to court. They have the say in the law, and ultimately the facts too.
“So, I think it’ll take some time between the Special Master and then, you know, going back to Judge Cannon to see if DOJ progresses at all with the cases is still up in the air.
“So, I think in a year we’ll know where we stand, but I don’t think we’ll know for at least the next few months.”
When asked what he would say to those who believe the horse has already left the barn, and appointing a Special Master seems an afterthought, Patel said,
“I mean, it’s a point, but once you have a Special Master in place, even if they have gotten information out of it, if the Special Master says you can’t use this information. They’re precluded from doing so.
“So, you know, say they went through a binder and they’re like, oh, that’s good stuff.
“And then Special Master comes in and says, ‘Well, you’re not supposed to have that, and I’m taking it away.’
“Technically, they’re supposed to follow that because it’s a judicial order, but they’re supposed to follow from a—in this case—a federal judge, so it’d be tough for them to.”
While Patel stressed a Special Master cannot control the actions the DOJ might take in using the documents toward a criminal investigation he asserted that,

“I think they’re on pause.
“I don’t think they’ll be stopped completely, because I don’t think that they’re going to say, oh, you can’t see anything, you know you can’t have anything.
“I think the judge will come in and say, you can’t have this stuff, but you can have X, and so it just, you know, remains to be seen if they can make whatever they’re trying to make out of that.”
However the Mar-a-Lago Raid and its subsequent fallout turn out, its historical record could potentially be used in Part 3 of the trilogy, tentatively scheduled for early in 2023.
“We have a couple of ideas, so we’re not finalized on it. We wanna stick with probably a national theme in terms of history, but we can’t write about everything.
“It’s from a child’s perspective. So we’re kind of limited. I’m not sure what it’ll be exactly, but we’re working on it.”
With the groundswell for Trump to run for president in 2024 and a potential win, I asked Patel whether he would partner with a second Trump administration to clean up the federal law enforcement agencies.
“Yeah, after 16 years in government, it’s kind of nice to be out. But at the same time, if the right leadership is in place, i.e., President Trump, I would, of course, consider an appointment in that administration for ‘one more go,’ to borrow from him.
“Mostly because it’s gotten so bad, and we’ve just lost confidence in, in my universe of stuff, national security, defense, law enforcement. There’s ways to restore it and we just need to get it right for the benefit of the country.”
In terms of how Patel would approach solutions to the problem of trust outside and within these agencies, Patel made it clear he is not interested in burning the house down.
“I’m not one of those guys. You know, you need an FBI, you need a DOJ, you need a DoD and an IC and all that.
“What happens is you can go in there and hey, it’s the people, right? Not just at the top level, but the second and third and fourth level. You have to go in there and follow the policies of the administration, and not politicize it. That’s my biggest critique of the combination of the systems that I worked in is the politicization of either DOJ or the DoD, especially with a two-tier system of justice.
“You know, like it can’t be one set of rules for one group and another set for everyone else.
“We have to eliminate that, and that’s what I think when I go around and talk to a lot of Americans. They feel that that’s why they’ve lost trust in those divisions or agencies, because they feel that there’s disparate treatment. And you can eliminate that by taking politics out of that stuff.
“It’s doable. It’s hard, but it’s doable.”
In the meantime, Patel works to educate and enlighten the next generation on the truth of our history, and how corruption works to destroy it.
“The trilogy continues in my mission to educate America’s children and bring the truth to light. I fully believe that history sides with our kids and election integrity matters. I will always fight for these important issues and am excited to bring another best seller into the homes of American families and the schools across our great nation.”
