A recovering drug addict has lost her fight with depression after documenting her desperate battle to get clean – and posting messages of hope just weeks before taking her final breath.

Courtney Crowe, 26, died on Wednesday following a struggle with mental health issues, three months after coming off drugs.

While on her sixth day of rehab in November last year, the Brisbane woman revealed she was struggling to cope in a candid post about her journey towards sobriety.

‘This isn’t as much of a walk in the park as I have made it seem,’ she wrote at the time.

‘I have struggled with mental health and addiction issues since the age of 13 and I do not want to romanticise the idea of a rehab or a retreat because there is nothing pretty about it unless you put in the hard yards.

‘The first couple of days I was detoxing and slept for 15 hours of the day and drunk my weight’s worth of coconut water to flush out my system. I was vomiting and had diarrhoea, there is nothing pretty about detox.’

Ms Crowe revealed she started using drugs to escape her own feelings and ‘numb’ herself.

‘I haven’t felt proper emotions for almost two years now whilst I was in HEAVY active addiction,’ she wrote.

‘I think that’s what I’m struggling to come to terms with now… I will deal with being an addict for the rest of my life even if I was to remain sober for the rest of my life and that’s the reality.

‘Using drugs and avoiding getting the help I so desperately needed for my mental health has ruined my life.’

She celebrated the milestone with what would be her final social media post updating friends on her progress.

‘As of 8pm.. I am officially ONE MONTH clean! I F***ING DID IT!,’ she wrote. ‘2020 has been a crazy year for me and everyone else.. who knew rock bottom had a basement, huh?’

‘For anyone out there struggling here with mental health, addiction issues or suicidal thoughts, please reach out. I have been there and I will listen with unjudgmental ear and unbiased opinion.

‘I will help as best as I can or point you in the direction of some of the best therapists I have encountered in all fields from legal matters, PTSD, depression, anxiety and sexual and childhood abuse, domestic violence.’

Ms Crowe said she would be entering 2021 as a ‘new and improved, sober Courtney’.

Her friends and family rallied around her with messages of support.

‘So proud of you my baby girl! The sky is the limit. Keep doing and being you! You are going to change the world,’ one wrote.

Courtney Crowe’s last update on her health before her tragic death

‘As of 8pm.. I am officially ONE MONTH clean!

I F***ING DID IT!

2020 has been a crazy year for me and everyone else.. who knew rock bottom had a basement, huh?

I’ll be entering my 26th lap around the sun on January the 1st and 2021 as a new and improved Courtney and SOBER!

In 2021, I will continue working towards bettering my mental health, addiction and trauma issues and my recovery that I’ve learnt along the way during my stay at The Health Retreat. I will be getting sentenced and learn my fate with my legal matters. I will make new friends and lose some too as I evolve into my new and healthier lifestyle. I will love every single day of my freedom and sobriety.

For anyone out there struggling here with mental health, addiction issues or suicidal thoughts, please reach out. I have been there and I will listen with un judgmental ear and unbiased opinion. I will help as best as I can or point you in the direction of some of the best therapists I have encountered in all fields from legal matters, PTSD, depression, anxiety and sexual and childhood abuse, domestic violence or even psychiatrists that can diagnose you if you believe you may suffer from any disorders.

Thank-you to each and everyone of YOU who have reached out in one way or another and helped me throughout this journey. I could not have done this without all of your support.

Yours truly, Courtney v2.0 x’

But she tragically saw little more than a 30 days of the year, losing her battle on February 3.

Family friend Rose Howard created a Go Fund Me to go towards Ms Crowe’s funeral costs and ongoing support for her mother Ange.

‘For those of us who knew her, knew Courtney fought a hard battle and even though she was battling herself she was always there for others and in turn we would like to be there for her and her mum,’ Ms Howard wrote.

‘If you are unable to donate, we urge you to please take the time to check in on your family, friends and workmates, offer support and point them in the right direction so they don’t go down that dark path even further.’
