James Martin has shared the three basic foods that helped him shed weight – and not pile it back on. He transformed dramatically after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2005, where he lost three stone, going from 17st to 14st.

As a famous chef surrounded by food, he could have easily returned to his past ways. Yet, he’s stayed slim thanks to simple adjustments to his food and lifestyle choices.

James used to eat on the run during his hectic long working days and nights, with takeaways at the end of a tiring shift being his preferred choice.

But he made a crucial decision: “I no longer stuff my face with really bad things such as takeaway pizza, Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks, which I used to have tons of during my working day, just like almost every other chef in the country,” he previously shared with the Herald.

Instead of junk food, he introduced healthier alternatives into his meals – consuming fresh fish twice a week, and eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
