Tia has announced that she is set to make a return to reality TV, releasing her new show Tia Mowry: My Next Act.

But the star revealed that her twin Tamera would not be appearing on the show – despite their decades-long appearance together.

Tia sparked rumors among fans of their hostile relationship, revealing in the teaser for the show: “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her.

“But that’s just not where we are right now.”

CHASING ACTING DREAMS

Tia and Tamera were born in Germany to military parents in 1978.

Due to their mom and dad, Darlene and Timothy, working with the U.S. Army, the family lived in Hawaii and Texas twice before relocating to LA.

The big move centered around the girls chasing their acting dreams.

The Sister, Sister pair also have two younger brothers, Tahj and Tavior.

SISTER, SISTER

Tia and Tamera made their first TV debut at 16 years old on the iconic show Sister, Sister.

Premiered in 1994, the show put the duo in the spotlight in a tale about sisterhood, family life and navigating teen years.

The show launched the Mowry sisters’ career, which later led them to land gigs like the beloved Disney Channel movie Twitches.

Tia and Tamera also had their own individual acting gigs – Tia worked on various shows like Cartoon Network’s animated Bratz series, and Tamera made guest appearances on shows like Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Sister, Sister ended in 1999 after six seasons and 119 episodes.

The duo claimed to have enjoyed their early success, telling The Real in 2016: “My sister and I used to read every fan mail because we just love our fans that much.”

But it didn’t come without some setbacks – the sisters sometimes received hate mail discussing their looks and acting, negatively knocking their confidence.

Tamera added: “I can remember reading this stupid letter when this person called me ugly and said I was the ‘ugly and goofy twin.’

“And for years, I made an agreement with that stupid statement. And I carried it around with me for years. I thought I was ugly and I thought I was goofy.”

Despite setbacks, Tia and Tamera battled through the hate and continued to land star roles on TV.

INCORPORATING NORMAL LIFE

After they graduated high school, Tia and Tamera attended college at Pepperdine University in Malibu.

They both graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.

The pair attended college part-time while also juggling rehearsal or shoot sessions between classes, Tamera told Today.

GOING SEPARATE WAYS

Tia got married in 2008 to her now ex-husband Cory Hardrict, who she divorced in 2023.

The couple also welcomed two children together.

Their son, Cree Taylor, was born on June 28, 2011, and their daughter, Cairo Tiahna, on May 5, 2018.

Meanwhile, Tamara married her boyfriend-of-six-years Adam Housley in 2011.

They have two children together too, named Aden John Tanner Housley, born in 2012, and Ariah Talea Housley, born in 2015.

RECENT FRICTION

After having their own families and leading separate lives, rumors swirled that the twins were no longer close.

Tia has since exasperated the gossip when announcing her new show Tia Mowry: My Next Act – and how twin Tamera wasn’t going to be on it.

In the teaser for the new show, she hinted that the two no longer speak regularly either.

She said: “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her.

“But that’s just not where we are right now.”

Tamera had also hinted they had fallen out earlier in 2024.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “Tia is living her life right now, and Tia is doing Tia.”

She had no idea that her twin was launching her own programme.

Tamera confessed: “I know! I didn’t know until… I found out with the rest of the world.”

When asked if she’ll appear on her show, she confessed: “She didn’t ask me. So I take that as a no!

“She’s like ‘This is my story’ and I can only respect that.”

Despite various riffs in their sisterly relationship, Tia made it clear “there’s so much love” between them, and that it is having their own lives that have caused them to drift apart.

Tia told People: “People have started to create their own families. It is what it is and that’s okay.

“There’s no hard feelings.”
