Dessert sushi has become the latest trend to take over social media as savvy home cooks have whipped up sweet versions of the Japanese dish using brownies, Oreos, fruit and chocolate.
The trend began after TikTok user Sienna Sweets, from Melbourne, Australia, shared a recipe for Oreo sushi causing a frenzy among dessert lovers, with people now attempting everything from fruit sushi to chocolate maki.
Elsewhere, British baker Eloise Head, who built a large audience during the first Covid lockdown by posting videos of desserts on her viral food blog, FitWaffle Kitchen, showed fans how she makes the treats with a packet of biscuits and four tablespoons of milk.
Some cooks have used bananas and coated them in chocolate and pancakes, while others have used candied ginger, sweet rice, and biscuits.
As Japanese-inspired dishes continue to prove more popular than ever, Aldi shared some innovative sweet sushi recipes with FEMAIL – which can be made at home for as little as 7p.
Food influencer, The Food Baby shared pictures of the supermarket’s mouth-watering Biscuit Sushi at home for only £1.43 for 20 sushi rolls, which works out at just 7p per roll.
