Weight loss can be extremely hard to achieve and maintain if not losing weight sustainably. In order to lose weight slimmers must be in a calorie deficit which means burning more calories than consuming and the metabolism plays a huge part in how many calories someone burns each day.

David added: “Green tea is packed full of antioxidants, specifically protective polyphenols.

“The major polyphenols in green tea are flavonoids and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which function as powerful antioxidants.

“Antioxidants are well known to help your body fight against disease, and along with fruit and vegetables, green tea is a great addition to your diet.

“To lose weight and burn fat your body must first break that fat down and move it into your bloodstream.

He said: “Ginger tea is full of antioxidants; it is also anti-inflammatory and a great source of potent diuretics, as well as being thermogenic, which can help boost your metabolism.

“Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger and it stimulates speedy digestion and can also help to stabilise blood sugar levels in the body. This, in turn, can support the body feeling fuller for longer and lead to less unnecessary snacking. Another tip is to add lemon into your ginger tea.

“Not only will this be a welcome addition for your taste buds, but also will give your immune system an extra boost and could help to suppress your appetite.”

While teas may be a good beverage to help burn promoting fat breakdown, smoothies are a great healthy drink that can also help to keep you full.

Smoothies are extremely versatile and virtually all fruit and vegetables can be added to one.

David said: “Smoothies are a great way to pack in nutrients quickly and easily on the go.

“You can add anything to your smoothies including vegetables, fruit and fruit juices, which allows you to get all the nutrients you need.

“For example, blueberries are great fat burners as they are full of antioxidants and can activate fat burning genes. Similarly, strawberries contain polyphenols which can stop the production of fat in the body. Blueberries and strawberries are both high in fibre which can also help with feeling fuller for longer.”

Teas and smoothies should be in addition to water which should be consumed everyday.

It is recommended that an adult should drink between two to three litres of water today to help stay hydrated.

David added: “We all know that water is a necessary for a healthy functioning body, but did you know that it is also a great addition to your weight loss journey?

“Water helps to remove waste from your body. It does this by helping the kidneys to filter toxins and waste while the organs keep vital nutrients and electrolytes.

“When waste builds up in the body, it makes you feel bloated and swollen. Bloating can add inches to your stomach so the more hydrated you are, the easier it is for your system to move things along.”

It is also a well-known fact that when trying to lose weight, protein intake is essential because it can help keep you full for a long period of time.

Adding protein drinks to your diet is also a great way to consume protein and they can be as easy as adding powder to water.

The nutritionist went on: “Protein shakes can decrease hunger, increasing levels of appetite-reducing hormones whilst also reducing levels of hungry hormones.

“High protein drinks can also boost your metabolism which helps you burn more calories. Drinking them regularly can also help with building muscle which burns additional calories.”
