National treasure Sir David Attenborough worked from home for new documentary series A Perfect Planet. Ed Charles, a producer for the show, revealed on ITV’s Lorraine the habitual globe-trotter “didn’t want to leave his home” to do the voiceovers. He explained: “We did the recording from his home due to lockdown and him [David] being in his 90s, he didn’t want to leave his home, and did the recording there.

He rigged a studio in his room and put duvets all over the walls to help dampen the sound and then our sound recorder went down there, took a very long cable and put it through his window.

He was sat out in the garden recording and David narrated from inside his own home, which was a bit of a challenge.

David is the ultimate professional and took it all in his stride.”

At the age of 94, Attenborough is at high risk of the coronavirus virus, but it was recently revealed he’s had the COVID-19 vaccination.

One of his representatives said in a statement: “Sir David was always keen to get vaccinated, and support both the current programme and the NHS.

Of course, as well as his family and loved ones, millions of animal fans across the globe will be delighted – this is brilliant news.”

In an interview with the Telegraph last month he said he would definitely accept an invitation to be vaccinated when his time came.

At 94, I think I’m entitled!” he told the newspaper.

“I’m sufficient of a scientist still, I hope, to realise this is the thing to do.”

He added that the work that had gone into developing the vaccines showed the positive effects of international cooperation in combating global problems, such as the climate crisis.

“It (the virus) has drawn attention to the fact we aren’t as omnipotent and all-controlling as we think we are,” he told the paper.

The pandemic may have kept the icon indoors for much of 2020, but it hasn’t stopped him from continuing his work to get the world to act on climate change.

Speaking on life at home, Attenborough said: “I’ve seen the world go by in the natural world in my garden with a continuity and intensity that I haven’t been able to give it for, almost forever, really.”

People of any age, even children, can catch COVID-19, said the Mayo Clinic.

But the health site continued: “It most commonly affects middle-aged and older adults.

“The risk of developing dangerous symptoms increases with age, with those who are age 85 and older at the highest risk of serious symptoms.

“Risks are even higher for older people when they have underlying health conditions.”

In recent times, Attenborough has focused his energy shedding light on major risks the planet is facing.

He recalled the moment he felt the Earth itself was at risk, instead of the survival of individual species.

He told Radio Times a moment of clarity came while swimming in a coral reef in 1998 while filming Blue Planet.

He added: “We’re facing nothing less than the collapse of the living world.

“I was diving on a coral reef. I slipped into the water thinking I would see what I was accustomed to seeing, but instead I saw a white cemetery of coral that had simply died. That was truly frightening.”
