A Mexican Telenovela star has passed away Thursday after battling ovarian cancer.
Edith Gonzalez, 54, was confirmed dead by Mexican news agency Notimex and the TV stations Televisa and TV Azteca – where the actress had worked.
Gonzalez had revealed in August 2016 that cancerous tissue was discovered in her abdomen, CNN reports.

The actress’ cancer entered remission in 2017 but came back this year.

On her official Instagram page, a picture of Gonzalez and her daughter was posted on Thursday.
Gonzalez was best known for her work on the soap ‘Salomé,’ and had been most recently been a judge on the Mexican reality show ‘This Is My Style.’
The show shared a post remembering the actress on their own Instagram page.
Her career started in the late 1970s, when Gonzalez was just a child. Her career spanned four decades.

The actress received high praise for her role as Monica in the 1993telenovela ‘Corazón Salvaje.’ She also had roles on shows ‘Doña Barbara and ‘Los ricos tambien lloran.’
Gonzalez was the first actress to take the lead in the musical ‘Aventurera.’ The show was one of the longest-running shows in Mexico.
The National Association of Actors said Gonzalez had ‘asked us to remember her with a lot of affection and to be honored at the Jorge Negrete Theater.’ Her funeral will be held at the theater.

In her final tweet last month Gonzalez paid tribute to the beauty of life saying, ‘Good morning!!!!! Today we are given a new opportunity to love, I know it sounds mega-corny, but it’s net. Love every second, enjoy the gift of life! Even the simplest movement our body makes is a symbol of freedom and love. Gózalo !!!! So …. Guenaaaaas !!!!’
She was vocal about her journey with cancer, sharing different tidbits about her hair loss and treatments.
She appeared on the cover of Hola! magazine in 2017 and spoke about her cancer saying: ‘I am not a warrior, I am a lover of life.’
