HALSEY has spoken out amid harsh criticisms from fans over her latest single, admitting she ‘regrets’ returning to music.
In a post on Tumblr, the Without Me singer revealed she was not pleased with critical supporters.
Halsey, 29, shared a long post amid backlash over her latest single, Lucky.
“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” she began.
“Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am. It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency.”
She continued, “Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen. I don’t know man.
“I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.”
Halsey took a break from music when she was diagnosed with lupus and another rare disorder in 2022.
She returned to music when she was feeling better and able to and expressed excitement to do so.
The New Jersey native released a new single, called Lucky, which has been poorly received by some fans.
She continued in her Tumblr post, “When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”
NOT SO LUCKY
Lucky is the first single of Halsey’s upcoming fifth album.
The song echoes lyrics from Britney Spears’ 2000 single by the same name, which Halsey claims the pop princess OKed.
Halsey also drew inspiration from Britney, 43, for the video.
Britney later threatened to take legal action against the singer in a social media post that stunned fans.
Halsey’s Albums
Halsey announced that her fifth studio album will be out shortly after chronicling her recent health battle. Take a look at what she has released.
Badlands – August 28, 2015
Hopeless Foundation Kingdom – June 2, 2017
Manic – January 17, 2020
If I Can’t Have Love, I want Power – August 27, 2021
The End – upcoming album, 2024
In the video, Halsey clearly channeled Britney’s Toxic music video, going nearly nude in a sparkly sheer bodysuit.
The Oops! I Did It Again singer shared a statement on X, formerly Twitter, responding to the video.
“For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video,” she began.
“I feel harassed, and bullied.”
“I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all,” she continued.
“I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday.”
“I will definitely be putting it back up to show I CARE,” she went on.
“I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right [sic] cruel.”
Fans flocked to the comments to show support for Britney.
“We are with you Queen!” one fan wrote. “You will forever be the Queen of Pop!” Stay strong Britney, we love you!”
“It definitely gave off a mocking tone not gonna lie,” replied a second fan.
“We [love] you. Definitely not cool Halsey,” a third added.
Another fan seemed to disagree, writing, “I ran to YouTube to watch Halsey’s video. I was prepared to be outraged. And I really don’t know what the issue is…”
“It’s a fabulous video and song. This response is extremely odd,” they continued.
Britney later deleted the post, and addressed the decision in another strange post calling the original “fake news.”
“That was not me on my phone !!!” she wrote on X.
“I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.”
HALSEY’S HEALTH
In June, Halsey revealed that she is lucky to be alive after she was diagnosed with lupus and leukemia.
The singer announced the lead single from her fifth studio album, The End, before sharing her health scare in an Instagram video.
“Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote and album,” she wrote in her caption, tagging charities supporting people living with lupus and leukemia.
In a video, Halsey announced, “I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick.
“When I’m 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not going to be sick.
“I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and get to redo my 20s and 30s.”
