A dermatologist has shared that there’s a personal hygiene hack she refuses to gatekeep because it’s just so good.

Dr Neera said that if you have “dandruff, scalp build-up or oily hair,” it can be really frustrating.

It may feel as though your hair never gets properly cleaned, and you’ve probably tried all the viable solutions on the market to try and get rid of your problem.

But lurking in your kitchen cupboard could be the answer to your hair woes, and even if you don’t have it, it fetches a pretty small price tag.

“Try apple cider vinegar. The same apple cider vinegar you have in your kitchen can get rid of the yeast that causes dandruff, can exfoliate, and can get rid of scalp oil,” Dr Neera shared.

She then explained that to use it on your scalp, you need to combine it with other ingredients – you shouldn’t just pour it straight from the bottle onto your scalp.

Dr Neera said: “To use this, mix one part apple cider vinegar with four parts water in a spray bottle. Apply it to your scalp, leave it on for a few minutes, and then rinse it off.” It really is that simple.

In the comments, people said that they’d tried the hack, and it worked wonders for them.

One TikToker wrote: “Did this and it worked wonders!” Another penned: “Works great; however, I would recommend that you mix more water with the vinegar and only use once a week.”

Another agreed, saying: “True! Everyone’s skin reacts differently to it, so you better start slowly instead of irritating it even further”.

One woman asked for clarification, asking: “Do you wash your hair after that?” The dermatologist replied: “Yes”.

Healthline shares that there are definitely benefits to using apple cider vinegar in this way, but they remind people to exercise caution because it shouldn’t be “relied on” as a sole way to banish scalp issues.

They share: “Some people suggest that ACV could help strengthen hair and improve lustre by lowering hair and scalp pH. It may also have antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties that could help improve hair health.

“However, ACV shouldn’t be relied on to reduce inflammation or solve scalp conditions like dandruff.”

If you’re struggling with scalp problems, speak to your GP, who may be able to refer you to a dermatologist for personalised advice.
