If you want to tune in for a specific sport, check the television schedule on NBC for the events you want to watch. Just take note of the time difference—Beijing is 13 hours ahead of those in E.T.), for example. That means most of the live events will be aired in the early morning hours or late at night for American viewers.

How to watch the Olympics without cable
If you don’t subscribe to cable, there are plenty of alternative viewing options for the Olympics and the Paralympics. For one, you can use an antenna to watch your local NBC channel. Then there’s streaming: NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, will show events live and on demand. The basic Peacock account is free, but you can upgrade to Peacock Premium with fewer ads for $5 a month or $50 per year.
Fans can also tune on the Olympic channel through Sling TV (plans start at $35 per month), YouTube TV ($55 for the first three months), or with a Hulu + Live TV subscription ($70 per month).
How to watch the Olympics for free
To watch (part of) the Olympic or Paralympic Games at no cost, FuboTV offers a free trial. The streaming service airs live TV broadcasts from NBC, among its 100 plus channel offerings. Currently, though, the free trial is only for seven days, so it won’t get you through the duration of the Games. After that time, packages start at $65 per month. You can also stream clips of highlights for free on Peacock.

How to watch the Olympics opening and closing ceremony
Mirroring the opening ceremony from the 2008 Summer Games, the 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony will also take place in the Bird’s Nest National Stadium in Beijing. The ceremony will again be directed by famed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou.
The Olympic opening ceremony will air live on NBC, Peacock, NBC Sports, and NBCOlympics.com at 6:30 a.m. E.T. on Friday, February 4. It will return for a prime time presentation on NBC and Peacock featuring special coverage of Team USA and the Parade of Nations at 8 p.m. E.T.
After close to 3,000 athletes finish their competitions across 109 events, the closing ceremony will end the Beijing Games on Sunday, February 20. The event will air live on NBC and Peacock at 7 a.m. E.T. and return for a prime time slot at 8 p.m. E.T. The closing ceremony will also take place in the Bird’s Nest, where the Olympic flag will be passed on to the mayors of the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina-D’Ampezzo, the hosts of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
How to watch the Paralympics opening and closing ceremony
The opening and closing ceremonies for the Paralympics, which run from March 4–13, will be aired on USA Network. They’re set to air live, according to USA Today, and more details will be available closer to its start.
