Smith was Minnesota’s lieutenant governor before Governor Mark Dayton appointed him to succeed Al Franken, who resigned in December.
Painter, on the other hand, believes that a single-payer system is the most effective and comprehensive healthcare system and that the US should support it.

Richard was diagnosed with shingles, and Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 2 in July 2015, which led right side of Painter’s face being paralyzed mainly as a result.
Shingles is a painful skin rash with discrete blisters caused by a virus.
The rash on the left or right side of the body or face typically manifests as a single, wide mark.

Richard is a happily married man. He married his wife, Karen Painter.
His wife is a music history professor at the “University of Minnesota.” The pair have been in Minnesota since 2007 & have three kids together.
Moving on, Painter was born in 1961 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Champaign, Illinois, Kansas City, and the suburbs of Philadelphia.
He attended St. George’s School & graduated from Rhode Island. After then, he earned his law degree from “Yale Law School,” where he served as editor of the Yale Journal on Regulation, and his bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard University.
Painter was a tenured law professor at the University of Illinois College of Law and the University of Oregon School of Law. He received numerous academic honors and distinctions.
Similarly, he made his debut on national television in 1982 when he criticized Reagan’s “reckless deficit spending and cut to social services” during an episode of Firing Line with Reagan.
