BELOVED actor John Capodice has died aged 83 as tributes begin to pour in for the Hollywood and TV legend.

Capodice starred in over 150 films and series during his illustrious career with his most popular roles being in General Hospital and alongside Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura.

He died on Monday with his cause of death yet to be announced.

The funeral home where he is said to have died described him as a “devoted husband, father and grandfather”.

Capodice is survived by his wife Jane and two daughters Tessa De Pierro and Cassandra Hansen.

The Chicago native’s career first took off in 1978 when he landed a role on popular daytime drama Ryan’s Hope.

In the following years he remained on TV and had key roles in shows such as Spenser: For Hire, The Equalizer and Moonlighting.

Throughout his career he tended to appear as either a menacing mobster, a cop or as a relatable working-class man.

As his fame grew, Capodice started to land himself bigger roles within the TV industry.

Law & Order, Seinfeld and Will & Grace were among his biggest gigs.

He also featured in six episodes of General Hospital starting in 1994 where he played Carmine Cerullo.

The same year he played cop Aguado in the Jim Carrey smash hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Since breaking into Hollywood with the comedy classic he played a range of roles in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Emmy award winning Wizards of Waverly Place.

He would also have roles in the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day.

His final projects before his death included roles as a cab driver in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in 2023.

As well as Big John in the 2024 series Conversations with Mobster.

Capodice also featured as a voice over in several video game franchises and in memorable TV adverts.

One saw him play a bumbling pizzeria worker on behalf of Polly-O String Cheese.

Born on Christmas Day in 1941, Capodice even served for the US Army in Korea from 1964 to 1966 before his career skyrocketed.
