Who is Arthur Harari?

Arthur Harari is a French film director, screenwriter, and actor.

He was born in Paris, France in 1981.

His grandfather is the famous Egyptian-French actor Clément Harari, known for his roles in It Happened in Paris, Five Miles to Midnight, and Secret Agent Fireball.

Harari has two brothers, Tom, a cinematographer, and Lucas, a graphic novelist.

He is known for directing and writing the French short films Des Jours Dans La Rue, Le Petit, La Main Sur La Gueule, and Peine Perdue.

Two of his feature-length films, the 2015 family revenge drama Dark Inclusion and the 2021 adventure drama Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle, were co-written by fellow French screenwriter, Vincent Poymiro.

Harari has also collaborated with his longtime partner, the acclaimed film director, screenwriter, and editor Justine Triet.

The duo co-wrote the 2019 comedy-drama film Sibyl, which Triet directed, and the 2023 thriller, Anatomy of a Fall.

Harari has appeared in many of Triet’s films, including Age of Panic, In Bed with Victoria, Sibyl, and Anatomy of a Fall.

He most recently starred in The Goldman Case, a legal biographical film, playing Pierre Goldman’s lawyer, Georges Kiejman.

On Mubi, a global streaming platform, production company, and film distributor, Harari stated that he wants to create films that stand out among the rest.

“There have never been so many films in the whole world, so many festivals, so many people writing on films, but there are a lot of fakes, a lot of false genius and deceiving propositions,” he wrote.

“I want to make honest and strong films that are a little more than what I see,” he added.

Do Justine Triet and Arthur Harari have children?

While it is unclear exactly how long Justine Triet and Arthur Harari have been romantically involved, the duo’s working partnership dates back to the 2013 comedy-drama film, Age of Panic.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Triet and Harari also revealed that the duo’s latest collaboration, Anatomy of a Fall, was written by the two of them during the Covid-19 pandemic, while they were on lockdown in Paris with their two children.

“Most of the time we would be in the same flat and so, in order to concentrate, we would write on our own,” Harari said.

“[Triet] would try something first and then send it to me, and I would propose changes and send it back. A lot of emails.”

“It was important that it not be too literary, too clean, because you wanted the fight to be real and raw,” Harari added.

Writing the film, centered on a marriage falling apart, also helped the couple work through things in real life.

“But not a working-through of actual elements of biographical life, like Joan Didion,” Triet explained.

“It’s more this way of using fiction to anticipate and ward off these budding elements of life that have the potential to become dramatic, before they arise.”

While little is known about Triet and Harari’s relationship, the duo have shared snippets of their family life in the occasional interview.

In a September 2020 interview on motherhood in cinema with France-Amérique, Triet confirmed that the couple’s two children are both girls.

“I have two daughters and I work extremely long hours, so this is a concept close to my heart,” Triet said.

“The difficulties of experiencing motherhood are hidden and rarely talked about.

“It is an interesting subject but it is barely portrayed in cinema,” she added.

While Triet does share the occasional snap of her daughters on social media, including her personal Instagram account, their names remain unknown to the general public.

Justine Triet and Arthur Harari have garnered dozens of awards and accolades, including both nominations and wins at film festivals and award shows.

The 2013 film Age of Panic, which Triet directed and wrote, and which Harari starred in, earned a nomination for Best First Feature Film at the 2014 César Awards, the national film award of France.

Their 2019 film, Sibyl, which Triet directed, featured an original screenplay co-written by the couple.

It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

It was also nominated for Best Narrative Feature at the 2019 Philadelphia Film Festival.

The couple’s most recent collaboration, Anatomy of a Fall, is currently their most successful.

The duo co-wrote the film, with Triet directing.

“The question of being a couple does not arise when we work together, it is another part of our lives,” explained Triet, in an interview with Brut.

“It’s not necessarily easy sometimes for Arthur to find himself in this position where, ultimately, it was me who had the last word,” Triet added.

“And so, from time to time, there were little moments of disagreement, we will say,” she explained.

As for whether the duo will work together again, time will tell, though both Harari and Triet agree they need a break.

“Not for a while,” Harari said.

“I don’t think we’ll work together again either, and this is the last time we’ll do it, really,” Triet added.
