Mark Labbett has been open with his weight loss journey, updating his social media followers with how he is doing. Also known as The Beast on ITV’s The Chase, the game show genius lost weight by following a healthier diet.

He added that he was following a high protein diet and cutting back on foods high in carbohydrates.

According to Healthline, protein is the “single most important” nutrient for weight loss.

This is because a high protein intake helps to boost the metabolism as well as reducing appetite.

It is well known that those with a higher metabolism burn more calories both during exercise and at rest.

The TV star also credited his weight loss to cutting out sugar after revealing that it was his “downfall”.

He said: “I’m not a drinker, but sugar has always been my downfall.

“A good friend of mine who had the gastric band said it won’t do any good for me as I get all my calories by sugar, and it’s too easy to digest.

“I still have sugar but an awful lot less. I should have less still.”

An excessive amount of sugar in the diet can lead to several health-related problems including obesity.

The NHS recommends that adults should have no more than 30g of free sugars a day, equivalent to seven sugar cubes.

Free sugars are those added to food or drinks such as sweets, cakes, biscuits and chocolate.

Another star who has lost weight in recent years is Paul Sinha.

Known on The Chase as The Sinnerman, Paul was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes back in 2018.

This sparked Paul’s interest in losing weight, and he managed to lose a stone while taking part in ITV’s documentary, Diabetes: The Fast Fix.

Last year, he said: “I’ve lost a stone in weight. If I lose another I have a shout of getting an invite to a gay awards night.”
