9-year-old Adhara Pérez has an IQ of 162 – higher than both geniuses Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, who had scores of 160.
The Mexico City native grew up in the slums of Tlahuac and was diagnosed at just 3-years-old with Aspergers, an autism spectrum disorder.
Because of her differences, Adhara experienced bullying in school and struggled academically. According to The Yucatan Times, her classmates often made fun of her, and her teachers didn’t believe she’d go far academically.
School can be tough for kids, but it’s even more challenging for those with a developmental disorder. Those who are perceived to be “different” by their peers can experience harsh bullying, and the school system isn’t set up to help those with unique needs excel in education. That was all true for Adhara, who wanted to be an astronaut but didn’t believe she was fit enough given her track record at school.
After her mother noticed her suffering at school from bullying, she decided to take Adhara to therapy – and that’s when everything changed for them.
Adhara scored 162 on the IQ test, surpassing the IQs of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. The Yucatan Times reported that Adhara went on to graduate elementary school at five years old, middle school at six years old, and high school at eight years old.

The now nine-year-old has moved on to studying for two college degrees online, Industrial Engineering in Mathematics and Systems Engineering by CNCI.
Adhara hopes to go to the University of Arizona to pursue her dreams of becoming an astronaut. According to Mexico News Daily, the University’s president personally invited her to study there, and sent her a letter with the news.
The letter read:
“I was thrilled to read about your incredible story online and to find out that your dream school is the University of Arizona. We have many outstanding space sciences programs, you would have many opportunities to work side by side with the world’s leading experts… You have a bright future ahead of you, and I hope to welcome you on campus one day as a Wildcat.”
They say to shoot for the moon so you land among the stars, but I think Adhara may shoot for the moon and actually land there. Considering she’s achieved more than most people their whole lives at such a young age, it’ll be interesting to see where life takes her.
