Diet guru Dr Michael Mosley is well known for his weight loss strategies such as the Fast 800. And he revealed how people can curb their cravings for comfort food within the first week of starting the plan.

The Fast 800 diet involves cutting calorie intake to 800 a day for the first couple of weeks before slowly upping food and fasting on certain days.

While full to the brim with meal plans and recipes, the book also contains handy diet suggestions and tips from clinical psychologist Dr Gary Lamb.

And not only did he contribute his hacks for enjoying food, but he also tried it out for himself.

Dr Mosley told Studio 10: “He lost about 40kg (6st 2lb) on the programme! He advises things like writing down at the beginning what your objectives are.

“You have to have really good, strong clear reasons why you’re going on the diet, something preferably which is more than simply ‘I want to lose a bit of weight.'”

“Write it out and keep it as motivation,” Dr Mosley said. “So when you’re feeling like going to go back to your bad old ways you can pull it out.”

The health expert also recommended people get their families on board with their goals, as support is everything.

“Lots of support is hugely important,” he said, noting a weight loss journey can be a lonely one if done alone.

“The other thing is you’ll find a lot of this compulsive eating will go away when you go on the diet.

“It is now seen by many, particularly among the medical profession, as an excellent way to lose weight and improve your health, including helping those at risk of type 2 diabetes improve their blood sugar levels.”

He added: “I dropped 4kg (9lb) and lost 4cm of belly fat — my belt went in a notch but, more importantly, my blood pressure and blood sugars dropped, too,” he beamed.

“Happily, now at 64, I’m back at my healthiest fighting weight and feeling great.

“And I am convinced my new Fast 800 Keto plan is even easier to stick to, more effective, and perfectly suited for long-term weight maintenance.”
