Millie Boyle’s father, David, was also a professional rugby player. Shelley and her father raised her, along with three other sisters and one brother.

Millie’s father was injured in the head while working on the family farm in Cobargo when Millie was 12 years old. The athlete was discovered unconscious in a bovine paddock next to an irrigator and was taken to a hospital in Canberra.

He was placed in an induced coma and had to spend four months in a brain injury recovery clinic learning new skills and regaining his memory.

Millie’s mother recalls the incident as heartbreaking and recalls that he continued to say random things. “At first, it was very emotional for all of us, Shelley said.

During an appearance on The Unaffected Podcast, Millie discussed the impact of the accident on the entire family, calling the time period “crazy.”

“He was in the hospital for a long time and forgot about us all.”

Hannah, the second youngest of her three sisters, Daisy, Hannah, and Stella, has Down’s syndrome. “Hannah was treated the same as the rest of us.” Millie continued, discussing that her younger sister was “calmer” and more “easy-going going” than the rest of the clan.

Millie, a strong supporter of mental health, volunteers to accompany young people with a disability on social outings. She does so, through her friend’s organization, Stellar Experiences.
