Musk Responds to Trump: ‘The Constitution Is Greater Than Any President’

It’s been a busy weekend for Twitter and new CEO Elon Musk. Starting Friday night, the billionaire owner started releasing proof of what we all already knew—that Twitter actively suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story in the weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

Just in case that wasn’t enough, a back-and-forth between Musk and former president Donald Trump then took center stage. Here’s how it went down:

On Saturday, The Donald posted a message to his Truth Social app implying that elements of the Constitution should be terminated after the election-altering censorship was proven:

An angry Trump vented:

A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!

Strong words, and because they were from The Donald, they earned a lot of attention. On Sunday evening, Musk responded:

The Constitution is greater than any President. End of story.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 5, 2022

Naturally, the White House chimed in on Trump’s statement as well, saying The Constitution is a “sacrosanct document.” It’s rich to get lectures from an administration whose leader has blatantly pushed an unconstitutional student loan debt forgiveness plan and has routinely questioned the validity of the constitutionally-mandated Supreme Court. Article Four, Section Four of the document, meanwhile, says that “the United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion.”

I guess Biden doesn’t find that part so sacrosanct, as he continues to let millions illegally cross the Southern Border.

Trump is right to be furious, as the revelations showed a dangerous and un-American level of censorship by Twitter. (Twitter was hardly alone; many other news outlets banned the story too.) The “Twitter Files” were largely ignored this weekend by the mainstream media, which I argued Friday is the real threat to democracy. After years of peddling false “Russia Russia Russia” conspiracy theories, and positing that Jan. 6 was worse than 9/11, they simply turn a blind eye to a presidency and political party which actively colluded to deny the First Amendment to its foes—and possibly affected the outcome of an election.

His call to throw out parts of the Constitution, however, go too far and are unrealistic. Musk is right to point out that the founding document is bigger than any of us.

Trump has fought and clawed back against so much dishonesty, constant misinformation by the press, and countless Democrat shenanigans like multiple sham impeachments. It’s what made him a hero to millions of conservatives and Republicans.

Musk has lately been fighting many similar battles of his own, and he has torched censorious progressives and been unafraid to challenge unhinged leftist narratives. In doing so, he has become a hero to many Americans as well. I wrote in June that the last thing I want to see is Trump battling Florida governor DeSantis, because we need them both in this fight, and if one eviscerates the other, we all lose.

I feel the same thing about The Donald vs. Elon; I hope this isn’t the start of a feud. The last thing we need is two of our greatest fighters destroying each other—we need the whole team on the field.
