Career
Nancy started skating when she was a youngster. She rose to notoriety at the national level after finishing fourth in the junior division at the 1987 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The next season, she made her senior debut. Her national climb continued when she finished third at the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She qualified for the World Figure Skating Championships in 1991, where she won bronze.
She won bronze at the 1992 Olympics. The next year, she won the US National Championship in 1993. She was also an Olympic silver medallist in 1994 and a two-time world medalist. Kerrigan was assaulted with a police baton in 1994 by an attacker hired by Tonya Harding’s ex-husband. The event was dubbed “The Whack Heard Round the World.”
She immediately recovered from her knee injury and began her rigorous training. She went on to win a silver medal in the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994 at the Hamar Olympic Amphitheatre.
