Olly Murs has given up alcohol for a year after admitting that it can make him go ‘a bit mad’.
The singer, 38, explained that he never had a problem with alcohol, but was inspired to go teetotal as a ‘challenge’.
Speaking to MailOnline, he said: ‘I’ve not been drinking for a year. I’ve done 365 days. Just a personal thing, I like little victories.

Explaining his reasoning, he said: ‘I’m not someone who has ever struggled with drink, it was just something I felt like I wanted to for for a year and challenge myself. I just think sometimes drinking can lead to bad s*** happening.
When asked if he missed it, he said: ‘I don’t miss it at all. Only once when we got engaged I was devastated I couldn’t have a little tipple.
He joked: ‘Amelia drank the whole bottle – thinking why did I say yes. Yeah it’s not because I’ve ever had problems with drink, it’s just sometimes I can be a bit mad.
Olly doesn’t plan on staying teetotal for another year however, explaining: ‘I want to drink next year for the wedding.’

Elsewhere in the chat, Olly said that he planned on his wedding being small and intimate.
‘I don’t actually want a massive wedding. I want it quite intimate, just family and just close friends, but we’ll see what happens.
‘I would always say I wouldn’t sing at my wedding, but every wedding I’ve been to there’s a mike, I can’t help it. A few drinks in me and I’m singing Sweet Caroline.’
Olly popped the question to girlfriend Amelia Tank in June, and said he knew the bodybuilder was ‘The One’ after a ‘make or break’ holiday at the beginning of their relationship.
The X Factor star, who has been dating bodybuilder Amelia since 2019, revealed that their first official holiday together – a two week trip to Morocco – sealed the deal.

He told New magazine: ‘We both definitely knew. After two or three days, me and Amelia looked at each other and said, “yeah, this is kind of it now, isn’t it?” We both told each other that we loved each other.’
Olly continued: ‘When we came back from that trip, Amelia said, “I knew straight away that you were who I was going to spend the rest of my life with”, and I said the same.’
He revealed that Amelia had told them the holiday would ‘make or break’ them as a couple, with the former happening.
The singer also admitted that he believed settling down was a ‘big thing’ and ‘fought against’ finding love for so long until Amelia came into his life.
