The estranged husband of Alan Carr returned to social media on Tuesday night as he completed his last day in the treatment center, telling fans he is now ‘determined to stay sober.’
Paul, 50, announced his separation from Alan, 45, last month before a judge jailed him for a drink-drive crash which saw him reverse a 4×4 into a police car with an alcohol test reading ‘off the scale.’

Feeling positive: Paul Drayton has completed his rehab stay after being jailed for a drink-drive crash last month. The ex husband of Alan Carr returned to social media on Tuesday night to give an update on his progress
Paul has completed rehab stays previously, including one stint in 2018 following his honeymoon with Alan. He began his current course of treatment at the beginning of the year but had to pause and then restart his stay to have an operation and go to court.
He looked healthy and happy as he returned to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday night to give fans an update on his latest stay.
The videos began with Paul giving a tour of his room and a look at ‘a typical meal’ in the undisclosed treatment center, as he told his followers he was ‘watching the calories as I couldn’t exercise as much as I’m used to.’
He then revealed it was his last day in rehab, admitting ‘it’s been quite emotional to be honest with you but worth it.’

After arriving back home Paul took questions from his followers and when one asked if rehab had helped, he admitted that it was ‘a very difficult question to answer,’ adding: ‘I do feel that I’d hit rock bottom this time therefore rehab has really helped and I’m really determined to stay sober.’
He later added that the best thing about rehab is ‘knowing that you’re in there and you’re safe and the worse thing is hearing about other people’s addictions and problems, which is absolutely harrowing sometimes.’
Paul said he passed the time reading, playing games and ‘chatting with people and sharing stories and getting to know people.’

He said though that he had ‘difficulty getting off to sleep because my mind goes round and round and round.’
Speaking about his past month, which also saw him undergo a life saving brain operation after being diagnosed with a chronic subdural hematoma following a horse riding accident, Paul explained:
‘I completed the full treatment which was 28 days but inbetween that I went to hospital to have the operation and to court and to prison.’
Another wellwisher asked if the recent brain operation had ‘hindered you psychologically or physically?’

Honest: After arriving back home Paul took questions from his followers and when one asked if rehab had helped, he admitted : ‘I do feel that I’d hit rock bottom this time’
‘Physically no but my short term memory hasn’t been too good but apparently it takes awhile for your brain to get back to its normal capacity,’ Paul explained.
He ended his videos by replying to the question of what is the biggest lesson learned over the last few months>?
‘Don’t pick up another alcoholic drink!!!’ he wrote.
On January 28 Paul walked free from court following two ‘harrowing’ nights in custody after winning his appeal against a prison sentence for drink-driving.

Paul took to his Instagram Stories two days later, where he stated that he takes ‘full accountability’ and revealed that he would be going back into rehab.
He was jailed after reversing a 4×4 into a police car with an alcohol test reading ‘off the scale,’ but two days later a judge told him he should be given the opportunity to turn his life around and that his sentence would be suspended.
Paul recently announced his split from comedian Alan Carr, 45, his partner of 13 years, and also underwent brain surgery two weeks before his jail stay.

Sharing a series of four Instagram Story posts, Paul shared his thanks for those who’ve shown him kindness, while he accepted responsibility for what had taken place.
He wrote: ‘Thank you for all of the support, love and kindness you have shown me over the last few weeks.
‘As you can imagine, this has been an exceptionally challenging time, but I am so grateful for the support and care I’ve received.
‘I take full accountability for my actions, but I am so thankful for the opportunity to truly get better and to start my new chapter with strength and determination.’

‘I am now going back to my rehabilitation centre to keep my journey and progress moving forward and will be stepping away from social media during this time.
‘I ask that you direct any questions to my friend Kirsten [email protected] or @thekirstenwalkom.
‘Thank you all again. The next chapter is going to be the brightest. Keep smiling lovelies.’
Paul had been handed a 14-week jail term after pleading guilty to a single count of ‘driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit’.

Getting help: Paul also revealed that he would return to rehab ‘to keep moving forward’

John Dye, representing Drayton, told the court: ‘This is a very serious drink-driving offence.
‘It crosses the custody threshold. I think to say anything other than that would be absurd.’
But he emphasised Drayton’s previous good character, mental health struggles and problems with alcohol.
‘The two nights in custody have been extremely difficult for someone who has poor mental health,’ he added.
At the mention of his two nights in prison, Drayton broke down in silent tears in the dock.
Judge Shani Barnes responded: ‘I am sure they have been harrowing.’
After briefly retiring to discuss the case with her magistrate colleague, she returned to the courtroom and told Drayton that he had led an ‘exemplary life’.
Addressing the question of whether the sentence could be suspended, she said the answer was ‘quite clearly… yes’.
‘Yes, of course it is right that we give you an opportunity to make amends and turn your life around.’

She told him he would receive a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
Drayton, who had been visibly emotional in the dock throughout the hearing, broke down in fresh tears as the decision was announced.
At his sentencing hearing, the court heard that worried members of the public had called police on October 9 last year when they saw Drayton driving in Broadbridge Heath, West Sussex, shortly before 3pm.
Prosecutor Suzanne Soros said officers tracked him down and saw his vehicle ‘swerving from side to side’.
Suspecting he was over the alcohol limit, they signalled for him to pull over and he complied.
‘The defendant then reverses into the police vehicle,’ Ms Soros said.
Drayton was then boxed in by other police vehicles to prevent him making a getaway.
A breath alcohol test returned a reading of 153 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath – four times the legal limit.
Carr and his husband confirmed last month they were splitting up after three years of marriage and 13 years together.
A spokesman for Carr said the couple have made the decision ‘jointly and amicably’.
Carr reportedly ‘drank with fans’ after a comedy gig in Essex following the announcement.
He carried on with life as normal by getting straight up on stage, telling the crowd his break-up was good news for a ‘horny groupie into chubby homosexuals’.
He was described as the ‘life-and-soul’ at an ‘impromptu afterparty’ at his hotel in Southend-on-Sea.
A source told the Sun: ‘Alan was the life-and-soul following his gig in Essex and headed straight for The Seven Hotel where he was staying for an impromptu after party.
‘He spent the night buying drinks for guests and talking with them in the hotel bar until the early hours. Alan was in great spirits and had other guests in hysterics.’
The source added: ‘He didn’t shy away from his split with Paul either and was happy to speak about it.
‘It was clear there was no bad blood and Alan made it clear he just wanted to get on with life.’
The comedian told the sold-out audience at the Cliffs Theatre: ‘You might have read I am going through a divorce.
‘I know it is always sad when couples go apart but it is good news if you’re a horny groupie into chubby homosexuals. Travelodge room 242…’
Alan Carr and Paul Drayton were married by Adele in her Los Angeles garden in 2018.
The singer wrote on Instagram: ‘Seeing as the cats out the bag. I married two of my best friends in January. You know me, any excuse to dress up.’
Carr told ITV’s This Morning at the time: ‘Adele got ordained and she married us. She is the kindest and most sweetest. She sang my first dance.’

‘Sobriety’: Paul shared a statement on Instagram about the separation, explaining that he ‘proactively’ checked himself into rehab at the beginning of 2022 to seek help for alcoholism
In a statement about the divorce, Carr’s spokesman said: ‘After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage,
‘Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating. They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time.’
Last year, Carr told of his support after Drayton spoke about his struggles with alcoholism.
The comedian said while he had been away for work, Drayton had ‘fallen off the wagon and started drinking again’.
