‘People slap my belly’: How Eamonn Holmes went from big to ‘Bond’ after losing 3 stone

exciting broadcasting career has spanned 41 years so far. He opened up about how he shed his excess weight despite an overwhelming lifestyle.

Eamonn and wife have become a rather dynamic duo when it comes to weight loss.

With Ruth presenting TV show Lose a Stone in 4 Weeks alongside Dr Amir Khan, and Eamonn turning his focus to local produce in programme Farm to Feast, it’s no surprise that the married couple have adopted some of their own lifestyle changes.

His weight loss journey actually began in 2009, when the broadcaster took part in ITV1’s Feel Good Factor.

He lost two stone in a mere eight weeks, raising money for Diabetes UK.

Despite his affable nature and popularity in the UK, many viewers had taken to pulling Eamonn up on his unhealthy tendencies.

He explained: “I’ve had letters – well-meaning letters – from viewers, saying, ‘It really is time you did something about your weight.’ And they are right. Physically, I’m in a place right now where I don’t want to be.”

“People slap my belly all the time, and the truth is, it really hacks me off. People feel they can touch you, and I hate it,” he told the Daily Mail.

He even admitted to stepping on the scales daily, in hope that one day “it will register that I resisted that takeaway”.

“Sadly it never does.”

In 2015, he pledged to do a juice diet, and has lost three stone since.

“Now, if I have lunch, I will have a juice for dinner,” he said.

“If I have it during the day, I look forward to a meal in the evening.”

His new healthy habits of daily walks, weekly pilates and dog walking have allowed him to shed the weight.
“I genuinely believe in New Year’s resolutions. It’s a great time to take stock to repair your habits, to improve your life.”

But the star credited most of his weight loss to leaving breakfast TV.

He explained that with the hectic, unsociable hours: “You eat more. You get up early and have a bowl of cornflakes at 4am, you get to work and you have a bacon roll then you might eat something on air like a doughnut then you finish at 9am and someone says ‘you fancy some breakfast?

“Then you have elevenses and you’ve had six or seven meals before lunch.”

In December 2020 Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary replaced Eamonn, who moved to a school and bank holiday presenting slot.

The weight has since dropped off him.

However, the broadcaster will need to keep an eye on his waistline on his latest breakfast TV venture, Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel.
