QUINTA Brunson, known for her role as Janine Teagues in Abbott Elementary, filed for a sudden divorce from her husband, Kevin Anik, after only three and a half years of marriage.
The nine-time Emmy-nominated actress and writer, who shot to fame right after her and Anik’s wedding, cited irreconcilable differences when she filed for divorce at a Los Angeles court.
TMZ reported that the couple had signed a postnuptial agreement, and she wants the court to follow its terms when dividing the property.
The actress reportedly put “TBD” as the date of separation, per The New York Post.
The couple got engaged in July 2020 and officially married in October 2021.
The pair don’t have any kids together and have maintained a relatively low profile since getting together.
The two-time Emmy winner actress shouted out her now ex-husband during her acceptance speech at the 74th Emmy Awards when she won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary.
“In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, my cousins … my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known and my incredible cast and show for helping me to make this show and make the pilot,” she said during her speech.
Brunson also declared her love for her man during her 2023 Golden Globes acceptance speech for Best Musical or Comedy Actress.
“I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t think … Oh god. I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much,” Brunson said during her Golden Globes speech.
“I love my husband. I’m so happy. I love my cast. Oh, I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much,” she said.
Although she posted a photo of her engagement ring in 2020, her 2022 speech was the first time she publicly acknowledged her marriage.
Brunson continued to rave about the support she received from her husband, who worked as a sales manager, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I mean, a partner during all of this, you can’t buy that kind of support,” she told the outlet.
“Someone willing to go through what it takes to make Abbott and be a part of Abbott, it’s priceless. I don’t know what to say. I’m so grateful”
Despite her praise, Brunson recently stepped out on the SAG Awards red carpet without her ring and her husband.
Although Brunson has been in the public eye for a while, she got her big break creating, executive producing, co-writing, and starring in ABC’s Abbott Elementary.
The show first premiered on ABC and Hulu in 2021, the same year Brunson married Anik.
In the four years the show has been on, its garnered over 24 Emmy Award nominations, walking away with 10 wins.
Brunson told Rolling Stone in 2024 that the show has become so much apart of her “DNA,” she doesn’t know when or if she could ever leave it.
“It’s scary because Abbott in particular is just so much of my DNA,” she said.
“I feel so spiritually connected to it. So it’s really hard when I say I want to pull back in some areas, because I feel like if I’m not there, then something will be different.”
