From garlic to shellfish to raw meat, there are many food rules which the Royal Family reportedly must follow, especially when travelling abroad to ensure their food is not contaminated. According to the Food Network, the Queen does not like the Royal Family drinking tap water. In his 2017 book, “Ma’am Darling: 99 Glimpses Of Princess Margaret” author Craig Brown wrote how Princess Margaret was appalled when a guest served her tap water.

The Princess asked for a whisky and water she was visiting her cousin, Mrs Ann Rhodes and her husband Denys in Devon one weekend. Denys began filling a glass with Scotch and some tap water.

Margaret’s footman David John Payne wrote: “Before I could speak, the Princess said in a voice which stilled all other conversation. ‘No Denys. Not that. I want WATER in my whisky.’

“The room fell silent. No one could fathom what on earth she was on about. ‘Mr Rhodes was puzzled too. ‘But this is water, Ma’am.’

“She looked him up and down and said in her most royal tone, ‘That is not water. It is only tap water. John knows what I mean. Fetch my special water immediately, will you?’”

The Royal Family prefer to drink Hildon Natural Mineral Water from the Test Valley in the UK.

The company has been supplying the royal household with drinking water for many years and in 2017 was granted a Royal Warrant, which is a huge seal of approval from the crown.

The Hildon Natural Mineral Water website reads as follows: “Hildon Ltd are delighted to announce that they have been granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment to The Queen after a number of years supplying the Royal Household.”

Executive Director Debbie Jones said: “The Warrant is a highly-prized seal of approval that is granted after an extremely rigorous audit process.

DON’T MISS:

“This means a great deal to the whole team. Crucially, it is further proof that we have a robust environmental and sustainability policy, which is not only part of the criteria to hold the warrant, but also an important part of our core philosophy.”

The Royal Warrant is granted to producers who have supplied to a royal household for at least five consecutive years.

It is the ultimate seal of approval, valid for just five years, but certainly gives the brand an excellent name and reputation.

Hildon water is bottled in the Hampshire countryside and does not come cheap, costing £14.70 per litre glass bottle.

This puts a pack of 12 bottles at £176.40, which would certainly add up in cost after being delivered to all the royal households.

The Royal Family reportedly would rather drink Hildon water as opposed to tap water due to the fears of it being contaminated.

In certain countries, tap water can prove very dangerous. The NHS recommends visitors to countries with poor sanitation “use filtered, bottled, boiled or chemically treated water” rather than water from the tap.

Contaminated water can contain bacteria and parasites, dangerous minerals such as lead or mercury, as well as chemicals from industrial waste.

These can pose many risks, side effects and diseases ranging from mild to fatal.

So naturally, the Queen reportedly prefers to drink bottled water, preferring this one brand in particular.

Hildon Natural Mineral Water, according to their own website, “is praised for its delicate purity and avoidance of medicinal taste.”

The Royal Warrant Holders Association reads as follows: “The Hildon Estate is 160 acres of beautiful English countryside where hares bound, wild deer roam and birds of prey soar high above.

“Passionate about protecting our natural surroundings, we strive to keep the estate as environmentally friendly as possible.

“The purity of the environment is reflected in our Natural Mineral Water giving a clean, well-balanced flavour that has become synonymous with fine dining, enhancing the food and wine it is shared with.”
