Finding out your blood type is really quite easy. All you need are 3 test tubes with 3 different reagents, containing 3 different antibodies: A, B, and Rh. And a blood sample, of course.

Put a little blood in each test tube and watch for the contents to clump. Clumping means that the blood is reacting with the same antibodies that it has in itself and this is how scientists figure out our blood type.

Now that you know how your blood type is determined, we would like to share with you how it could dictate your diet.

The idea is that our blood type is closely related to our body’s ability to digest certain foods. Therefore, each blood type determines a special diet suggested for a person to follow to live better and healthier.

What Is The Blood Type Diet

This approach was popularized by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo after he published a book on the subject in 1996. But there is no agreement on whether it really works because there are no studies proving that this theory is correct or incorrect.

Type A

For people with type A blood, a vegetarian diet is suggested. People with this blood type are said to have low levels of stomach acid and cannot digest animal proteins and fats very well.

Therefore, it is suggested that they eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains. It is important to have these foods in the most natural state possible: fresh and organic with no added ingredients.

Type B

According to the book, people with this blood type are considered omnivorous, so they can eat a variety of foods. However, foods like corn, wheat, tomatoes, and peanuts can cause weight gain, fatigue, and hypoglycemia.

Another food that people with this blood type should avoid is chicken. Although it is lean meat, it can cause strokes and immune disorders in people with type B blood. It is best to replace chicken with lamb, goat, or rabbit meat.

Type AB

Type AB is the rarest and newest blood type. It has a mixed inheritance of types A and B. People with this blood type have a low stomach acid content like type A, but they also have a type B adaptation to meat.

Eggs, shellfish, and vegetables are good for people with this blood type. They are also recommended to eat smaller portions more frequently because it is better for digestion.

Type 0

People with this blood type are said to have high stomach acid and a very well-developed ability to digest animal fats and proteins. That’s why a high-protein diet, with lots of good quality meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, works best for them.

Carbohydrates like grains, beans, and vegetables can be easily stored as fat in their system. So if you are type 0, it is better to avoid them.

It looks good in the book, but what about real life? Studies conducted in 2014 showed that people who followed the suggested diet had improvements in health.

However, these improvements were not related to blood type. Either way, all four diet plans are healthy and accompanied by an exercise regimen, they can transform into a healthy lifestyle and improve your overall well-being.
