T-Pain has said he still has ‘love and respect’ for Usher after comments he made about the singer went viral on Tuesday.
The rapper said he dealt with four years of depression after Usher told him that his use of Auto-Tune had ‘f***ed up music.’
The I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper) artist, 35, speaking on the Netflix show This Is Pop, opened up about the emotional reaction to his peer’s criticism, according to EW.
But in a subsequent tweet, T-Pain said: ‘I still love and respect @Usher telling that story was in no way meant to disrespect that man. Ppl talk s*** about me 24/7 but when it comes from someone you truly respect it hits very different.’
The I’m Sprung rapper said on the documentary: ‘Usher was my friend. I really respect Usher. And he said, “I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda f***ed up music.”’

T-Pain said he initially laughed off the remark until Usher stressed he was not joking.
‘And then he was like, ”Yeah man you really f***ed up music for real singers,”’ he said. ‘I was like, ”What did I do? I came out and I used Auto-Tune.”
‘He was like, ”Yeah, you f***ed it up.” I’m like, ”But I used it, I didn’t tell everybody else to start using it.”’

The Bartender artist, who emerged victorious on the first season of The Masked Singer, said the strong words from his colleague resonated with him in a deep way for a long time.

T-Pain notably used the Auto-Tune in a number of songs, which had been used previously in hits such as Cher’s 1998 hit Believe; and a remix of Jennifer Lopez’s 1999 song If You Had My Love, which T-Pain said was the first time he heard it.
T-Pain is among the guests on the Netflix docuseries, which is aimed at exploring major moments in pop. Other artists set to speak in the series include Babyface, Brandi Carlile, Chuck D, Shania Twain, and members of ensembles such as Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys, Blur and Oasis.
The series is set to drop on Netflix Tuesday.
