Today the brand behind the Theragun and TheraFace Pro unveiled the Therabody SmartGoggles, a new wearable device to promote relaxation and focus where you need it most: your head. The SmartGoggles are one of a few new launches from the brand (including upgraded Theragun iterations, a sound therapy component to the Therabody app, and a zero gravity lounger). We got to try the goggles before the general public, and, not to spoil the surprise, but this new launch proves that the brand knows how to stay relevant in the ever-evolving wellness industry. Keep reading to learn more about the Therabody SmartGoggles and how they can level up your work-from-home self-care routine.
What are the Therabody SmartGoggles?
The Therabody SmartGoggles is a facial device that uses your heart rate to deliver customized massage, vibration, compression, and heat sensations to your eye area. The goggles are padded, with a large adjustable strap to fit all head shapes. These goggles are intended for folks who manage eyestrain, headaches, struggle to fall asleep at night, or have trouble relaxing.
Modes
There are three session modes: SmartRelax, Focus, and Sleep.
- SmartRelax: Focuses on massaging the eye area and uses a vibration pattern reflecting your heart rate, which supposedly helps you relax more quickly.
- Focus: Massages the space between the eyebrows and heats the eye area while a single vibration pattern works to focus the mind.
- Sleep: Gives temple massage and slow-wave vibrations that may promote sleepiness.
How do you use SmartGoggles?
With just three buttons on the entire device, it’s pretty easy to use and control. The power button also toggles between the three session modes. On the left side, you can customize your vibration and heat settings. That’s it. Afterward, you just sit back and relax.
Who are SmartGoggles good for?
If you’re someone who stares at a computer all day for work (*raises hand*), has to take frequent breaks because of migraines or tension headaches, or you lie awake for a long time before finally getting shut-eye, they could be quite beneficial for you. The massaging nodes focus on the temples, brow bones, and in between the eyebrows, while the entire device vibrates, compresses, and sends targeted heat therapy. All of these things in tandem help to temporarily reduce discomfort and pain.
How I tested:
I used the Therabody SmartGoggles once for each pre-programmed 15-minute session (SmartRelax, Focus, and Sleep) and connected them to TheraMind twice for complementary sound therapy.

My Therabody Smart Goggles First Impression:
Pros
I found the massage nodes to be just firm enough to ease tension without creating more pain points, and the addition of heat felt so soothing—especially after a long day. I think the design of the Goggles is sleek and intuitive, which isn’t an easy achievement for something you have to control (literally) blindly. They’re also quite comfortable and take up very little room in a purse or carry-on. I can definitely see myself toting these on a plane.
Cons
I found myself wishing there was a way to make the sessions shorter or longer because sometimes all I need is a quick five-minute break in the workday. The goggles are also quite noisy. It didn’t bother me for the SmartRelax and Focus sessions, but while preparing for sleep, I was a bit irritated that the motor was right next to my ear. And though they’re quite plush and comfortable on the eyes, it’s a bummer that you can’t be wearing any sort of makeup underneath because I’m sure plenty of office workers would get great use out of them during the day.
Bottom Line
Overall, I’m impressed with this new tech from the maker of the Theragun. I enjoyed the SmartGoggle sessions, especially when paired with the new TheraMind content. I’m not someone who has migraines, but I do manage eye strain from looking at a computer all day, and I appreciated the cushioned goggles because they literally gave me no choice but to unplug for 15 minutes and enjoy a massage. The high-tech device does have its cons, but for folks who need quick relief at a moment’s notice, it’s definitely one to keep around.
Editor’s note: At the time of writing, we have not fully tested the SmartGoggles to comment on long-term use.
