WENDY Williams’ family can petition the court to end her guardianship for good, a legal expert has revealed to The U.S. Sun.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, practicing California attorney Goldie Schon said Wendy’s family could take up their fight in court if they believe her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, isn’t doing her job.

Last week, Wendy repeatedly slammed her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, for holding her in a facility that she likened to a luxury jailCredit: News Enterprises Inc.

“I totally understand the position that the family is in, and this need to fight for their sister and their family member.

“If, in fact, the guardian is not doing what she’s supposed to be doing, if she’s slacking on her duties, if she’s mismanaging Wendy’s funds, if she’s not providing for Wendy’s care in the required fashion, then by all means, I do believe that the family should be fighting in order to get answers from the court, and that is the place to go.”

“If the guardian is not providing information, is not allowing access to Wendy on a free basis, that’s a problem,” Schon claimed.

“And if there’s no reason behind that, if there’s no reason as to why the guardian is putting these mechanisms in place, then I totally agree that the family should petition the court, which they are absolutely allowed to do, in order to question what is going on with the guardian and whether or not the guardian should be replaced with another guardian, or whether the guardian should be terminated.”

Schon said she does not believe the guardianship will be terminated completely, despite Wendy and the family’s anger with her current situation.

“I don’t believe that the guardian is going to be terminated- if there’s a problem with this particular guardian, then I can see something possibly change or be modified, but I will say, getting a guardian removed is not an easy task, and it will be very difficult to do,” she continued.

The legal expert said it’s on the family to petition the court if they have an issue with the guardianship or even if they want to move her to Florida to be closer to loved ones.

“If they want to go out there and say, Hey, we see a problem, or we want Wendy to be moved to a different venue, a different place, she want wants to move to Florida because she wants to be closer to family.

“These are all things that are valid and should be addressed to the court and should be requested if these are things that they believe are reasonable and viable things that need to be requested.”

The expert also believed since Wendy has been bashing her guardianship, she herself can petition for the guardianship to change.

Wendy Williams breaks down in tears and cries ‘I feel like I am in prison!’ under guardianship in last-minute interview

“Wendy went out there, both on a radio show as well as a podcast, and is bashing her own guardian and is claiming that she’s in a prison.

“Whether or not Wendy has all of her faculties in place to be able to make that kind of a statement, if in fact, we say, that she does… that she understands the consequences of her words, and she understands what she was saying, and it was of of sound mind, if that is the case then she herself could petition the court.”

“Believe it or not, she has the right as the ward, that’s what the person is called, when there’s a guardian, she has the right to petition the court and say, ‘Hey, I got a problem. I want a, b and c,’ whatever her punch list is.

“It’s not just the family who has the right to petition the court, Wendy has the right to petition the court and ask for modifications, request movement, termination, change of guardian, whatever the case may be, she has that right to do that.”

The expert added that Wendy’s state of mind would be taken into account in any petitions she makes to the court herself.

Schon also explored issues within Wendy’s family that may have excluded them for being considered as a guardian.

“I truly believe that the reason why we have a New York attorney at this point as a guardian was because of the issues that at the time that the guardianship was being implemented, that there were some problems within the family that a family member wasn’t provided as a guardian, or there were ethical issues that came into play that caused the court not to appoint a family member as a guardian.”

“There’s been some financial dealings with the son [Kevin Hunter J.r] that the likelihood that a judge would appoint the son as a guardian is just genuinely unlikely.

“Somebody who’s mismanaged her finances is not going to, all of a sudden, be placed into that position again,” Goldie explained.

“I do believe that the sister [Wanda Finnie] who’s an attorney or even the reporter [Alex Finnie], I think those are viable options.

The expert claimed Wendy’s sister or her niece could ask for a dual guardianship as well, or maybe don’t completely replace the current guardian, but instead work with her.

“Maybe they can even ask for a dual guardianship.

“The family could be asking the court to say, Hey, she’s she’s not in Florida. Her family’s in Florida. We’d like to move her to Florida. And if the current guardian has some problems, maybe we can add a dual guardian, or a co-guardian.”

WENDY SPEAKS OUT

In three separate interviews last week, the onetime Wendy Williams Show host claimed she feels like she’s “in prison” while living in a medical facility in New York.

In an interview on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on January 16, the former queen of daytime TV insisted: “I am not cognitively impaired.”

The star grew emotional and started crying as she described her fears about possibly not going to see her elderly father, Thomas Williams Sr for his 94th birthday next month in Miami.

“I don’t know whether I’m allowed to fly to Miami to say happy birthday to my dad.

“That person that you talked about, who’s holding me hostage…”

Host Charlemagne tha God then shouted Wendy’s guardian’s name, “Sabrina Morrissey!”

“I’m exhausted thinking about, ‘What if I can’t see my dad for his birthday?’ You know, at 94, the day after that is not promised. It’s not promised.”

The former talk show host said she wants to be allowed to simply go pick out a fragrance for her father for his birthday at Sephora.

Wendy Williams Alcohol-Related Brain Damage, Aphasia & Frontotemporal Dementia Diagnoses

By The U.S. Sun’s Senior Reporter Jessica Finn, who has reported on Wendy Williams for the past seven years.

As The U.S. Sun exclusively reported, Wendy Williams was diagnosed with alcohol-related brain damage in 2019 during a rehab stint in Florida.

An insider explained that a brain scan was done as part of Wendy’s rehab stay in Delray Beach.

A neurologist sat down with the star, her son, and her then-husband, Kevin Hunter Sr.

“The doctor explained to them that Wendy was suffering from alcohol-related brain damage.

“They told her that her alcohol abuse had done permanent damage to the layers in her brain,” the insider said.

“She was warned then and there that if she continued to drink, the damage would only get worse.”

In that meeting, they gave Wendy a devastating prognosis.

The doctors at the rehab foretold of the eventual decline of Wendy’s cognitive abilities, which have become apparent to those who have come in contact with the star in recent years.

“They told her that if she kept drinking she would continue to grow more forgetful, that she wouldn’t remember people’s names, and eventually, she could forget who people even were,” the source said.

After a comment call was sent to Wendy’s team, they released a statement saying Wendy had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances,” the statement read.

AWAY FROM FAMILY

Wendy’s family members are all in the Sunshine state, and the last time she was there was in December 2024 to see her son Kevin Hunter Jr. graduate from college, as shown in photos and video exclusively obtained by The U.S. Sun.

Family sources revealed to The U.S. Sun that it was just her second trip there to see her family since she was put in a facility in New York over a year ago.

During her interview with the Breakfast Club, her alleged dementia diagnosis was not addressed, nor was her alcohol use or alcohol-related brain damage diagnosis.

Wendy lost her eponymous daytime talk show at the end of the 13th season after being absent for its entirety.
