Diana Danelys de Los Santos, better known by her stage as Amara La Negra, was born to Ana Maria Oleaga, a single mother, on October 4, 1990, in Miami, Florida. From the Dominican Republic, Amara’s mother had emigrated to the United States. She supported her daughter by working five jobs.
Amara obtained her high school diploma and enrolled in college. Initially, she chose to study mortuary science, but she then switched to business administration and later quit it to focus on her musical career. She experienced a lot of prejudice as a child due to her skin tone.
