Emilio Santoro Biography
Who is Emilio Santoro ?
A British teenager who began imitating the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ as a child has been named Europe’s best Elvis impersonator.
Emilio Santoro, 19, from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, was crowned European champion for Elvis tribute artists for 2022 at a ceremony in Birmingham.
Emilio, who began impersonating Elvis at the age of four after his grandparents introduced him to the legendary musician, said being dubbed Europe’s best Elvis was a “dream come true”.
Emilio began to capture his mannerisms by studying videos of the iconic rock star, and even showed off his style in a homemade ‘El Rey’-style jumpsuit.
He continued to perform as Elvis during school talent shows and competed in his first competition on the continent at age 14, where he admits he was left ‘shaking like a leaf’.
Career
Held annually around Elvis’s birthday weekend, the European Elvis Championship and Convention sees dozens of tribute acts battle it out to be named European Champion.
The event, held at Birmingham’s Metropole hotel, is understood to be among Europe’s largest annual Elvis impersonation competitions.
Emilio told the BBC of his victory: “Everyone always says that life is too short: follow your dreams, and it really couldn’t be truer.” Being crowned champion is just amazing.
“I had a jumpsuit that my grandmother and aunt prepared for me and ever since then I have wanted to pursue this as a career.
“All the messages of support on social media have been very sobering.”

He added: ‘It just started sinking now. I had a dream since I was very young that I wanted to be on stage.
“At first I was nervous about chasing that dream, but luckily I have a family behind me and I’ve never looked back since.”
Neither of Emilio’s parents have a musical background
Neither of Emilio’s parents have a musical background. Her mother, Emma Santoro, works as a business manager for a food catering company and her husband, Joe, is an independent builder.
Emma said she was “an emotional wreck” seeing her son in the competition, but he “blew us away.”
“We’ve watched him, we’ve helped train him, we’ve seen the hours of work he puts in, so to see him finally get recognition is just amazing,” she said.
“His grandparents were initially surprised that Emilio had latched onto Elvis at such a young age, which amused them, but they love it and have always encouraged him.
“I’m a huge Elvis fan, so I was really happy to see him love everything Elvis.
“I’m very proud that he stayed true to himself and didn’t follow the crowd and make his friends meet Elvis.”
Emilio said that he prefers to sing gospel music and Elvis ballads, which are less well known but which fans love.
