Who is Eric Pierson?
Eric Pierson, 54, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder in the slaying of 33-year-old Erika Verdecia, hours after her body was found Saturday near Fort Lauderdale. Sunrise police say Pierson confessed to stabbing the single mother four times with a screwdriver on Sept. 25.

“I went crazy,” she said. “I told (the police) that they saw my daughter with a murderer. And then they started looking for her. But it was too late.”
Sunrise police said in court documents that they had a brief interaction with Pierson and Verdecia during a traffic stop on Sept. 25, the day Pierson told detectives he killed her. She was a passenger in Pierson’s truck and she did not appear to be distressed, police said.
CBS Miami reports that on Oct. 4, Pierson told police that Verdecia was with him when he was pulled over, and after that, they went to a gas station for gas. He told them that while they were there, Verdecia walked away from her and told him to meet her at a nearby Wendy’s, according to her arrest report.
Pierson reportedly said that she went to the restaurant, but she never showed up and he never saw her again. Police reviewed surveillance tape from the gas station and found that Pierson stopped there before he was pulled over, according to the arrest report. Surveillance video from Wendy’s did not show Pierson there, according to police.
Police say the 6-foot-8 Pierson was questioned again on Friday. They say he let them search his truck and they found blood inside. Later on Friday, his girlfriend called the police to say that she was watching the channel behind her house and saying, “Damn, that bitch sucks.” She told police that he had also said, “If they don’t find a body, they don’t have a case.”
The body was found hours later.
“While this tragic news does not bring Erika back to her family and friends, we hope that she can bring some closure to her loved ones,” Sunrise police tweeted.
