Who is Kennywood Park ?
Three people, including two teenagers, were shot and wounded Saturday night at an amusement park southeast of Pittsburgh, which was kicking off a Halloween-themed festival.
Allegheny County police said a 39-year-old man and two 15-year-old boys suffered leg injuries in the shooting shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin. Park security responded along with local and county police who were working a security detail at the park.
Emergency services took the man and one of the youths to a hospital, where the man was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and released. The young man was admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg, and another young man with a scratch on his leg was taken to the hospital by a relative; both teens were listed in stable condition.
Investigation
Witnesses told investigators that two groups of teenagers were involved in an altercation in front of the Musik Express ride and that a man wearing a black hoodie and dark-colored COVID mask fired shots.
A firearm was found near the scene, police said, and the search for the suspect is now underway, starting Sunday morning.

Statement
Kennywood posted a statement on Twitter around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday saying that the park had been closed for the night and that all the guests had left.

Officials said they were “aware of a situation that occurred tonight and are working with local law enforcement.” The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority.’
The park says on its website that all visitors, staff and management must pass through metal detectors at the entrance gate, and all bags, purses and coolers are subject to search. The site also says that “weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited in the park.”
Police are investigating using park security cameras and witness statements, KDKA-TV reported. County police asked anyone with information or video to contact investigators. The Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety said in a social media post that its officers were helping.
Shooting
A Kennywood Park security guard is at the main entrance to the amusement park hours before the shooting took place. The alleged gunman remains at large, as of Sunday.
Kennywood was celebrating the first night of its Phantom Fall Fest, scheduled for Oct. 16, according to the park’s website. The park will be closed on Sunday, with tickets dated for that day valid for any other day of the Phantom Fall Fest, and will reopen on Friday, the park said on its website.
The website advertises the park as a family fun destination with seven roller coasters and kiddie rides.
Ward Troetschel, of West Mifflin, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he arrived around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and saw ‘too many unaccompanied minors’. He said he left around 10:30 p.m. because the youths were being aggressive and ‘trying to start fights’.
As he left, groups of at least 100 walked past him two or three times, Troetschel said, calling it a scene with “a lot of chaos.”
