Who is Michael Ugwa ?
A father of three who died following an Essex shopping center robbery has been described as the “most trusted friend” with the “kindest soul” as two people are charged in connection with his murder.
Michael Ugwa, 29, of Rainham, was assaulted in the Lakeside Mall food court shortly before 4:30 p.m. m. last Thursday, April 28.
Arrested and Charged
A man and a woman were arrested on Monday May 2 and have now both been charged.
Brandon Lutchmunsing, 19, of Grafton Road, Dagenham has been charged with murder and brawling.
Shannon Weston, 20, from Paddocks Close, Canewdon, has been charged with aiding a criminal.
Both appeared today at Southend Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody and are both due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Friday 6 May.
Paying tribute to Michael, his mother said in a statement: “Michael was a kind man with a great personality and an even bigger heart.” He was special to many people and so it is with great sadness that we are writing about his untimely passing.

Attack
Michael was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, police believe it was an attack aimed at him.

Detective Chief Inspector Ashley Howard, who is leading the investigation, said: “As these charges highlight, our investigation is moving forward but not stopping.”
“We still believe this attack was directed at the victim and that the incident does not pose an ongoing threat to people who shop, eat and socialize at Lakeside.”
“We continue to do inquiries and need anyone with information that has not been identified to law enforcement to contact us.”
