Paislee Shultis, who had been missing for two years, has been found safe in a secret room under a staircase in Saugerties, New York, police said.
She was reported missing from her Cayuga Heights home in July 2019, when she was four years old, according to NBC 4. Police initially suspected the girl’s non-custodial parents but did not bring charges.

Paislee Shultis Found Alive
After an hour-long search, police found Paislee and her non-custodial mother, Kimberly Cooper, in a secret room under a staircase.
Paislee was examined by paramedics and found to be in good health, police said.
Cooper and Kirk Shultis Jr., the girl’s non-custodial father, have been charged in the case, along with Shultis’ father. The trio faces custodial interference and child endangerment charges.

According to the local ABC affiliate, Shultis and his father, Kirk Shultis Sr., have been released on their recognizance. Cooper is being held in Ulster County Jail.
All three have been ordered to stay away from the kidnapped girl.
Police Report
It is unclear who the child was living with when she was abducted in 2019.
In a statement on Tuesday, it was revealed that Saugerties Detective Erik Thiele ‘noticed something about the staircase leading from the back of the residence into the basement of the house that caught his attention.
He shone a flashlight into the stairs, and that is when detectives saw a pair of tiny feet.
‘After removing several more steps, the child and her abductor were discovered within,’ a police spokesperson said.
