                                        Vivian Lobo Biography

Who is Vivian Lobo ?

A Coalition candidate in the upcoming federal election has been referred to federal law enforcement over concerns of possible voter fraud.

Vivian Lobo is running for the Lilley seat in North Brisbane, the most restricted Labor seat in Queensland with Anika Wells securing a margin of just 0.6 per cent in the last election.

The Australian Electoral Commission reviewed Mr. Lobo’s candidate registration and nomination forms over concerns that she did not live at the specified address.

Lobo had listed his address as home in Everton Park, which is in the Lilley constituency.

On Friday, the grass was freshly cut and the sheets were hung in the windows of the house but there was no furniture or household items inside.

The AEC confirmed on Sunday that it had referred the matter to AFP.

“There is concern that the information provided by him about his residential address on these forms is false,” he said.

Lobo said that he would cooperate with the investigation.

“I signed up for the electorate because I had signed a lease at Everton Park with the intention of moving immediately,” Lobo said.

‘However, due to my campaign commitments and the difficulty of getting the merchants to the house, I delayed moving.’

‘This government has a terrible record when it comes to integrity. They’ve had stupid after scams,’ he said.

Candidate nominations will remain as formally declared in April.

“Ballot papers have been printed and distributed across the country for early voting to begin on Monday and many postal voters have already received their postal voting packets,” the AEC said.

Lilley’s seat was previously held by former treasurer Wayne Swan from the 1990s until he retired in 2019.

Investigation

The coalition campaign has not said whether it will continue to support Lobo in Lilley.

living outside of a nominated electorate is not illegal, but providing false information to the AEC could constitute electoral fraud.

He is the second coalition candidate referred to AFP for investigation in recent days.

Isaacs’s candidate, Robbie Beaton, was referred Thursday after he told a newspaper that he did not live on the Melbourne property where he was registered.

Queensland Labor Senator Murray Watt said Prime Minister Scott Morrison needed to explain whether Lobo would be removed during the investigation.

“This is an extremely serious allegation arising in connection with a candidate on an election campaign,” he said.

Not toppling Lobo would be another blow to “a government whose integrity is already in tatters” and which failed to deliver on a federal anti-corruption commission he promised in the last election, he added.
