Who was Dylan Stuart?
Dylan Stuart, 29, and Danika Thomson, 24, were traveling north of Roxby Downs when their 4×4 got stuck on Saturday.
Mr. Stuart left on a motorcycle to seek help while his girlfriend remained in the car.
Mrs Thomson waited several hours for Mr Stuart to return before setting off on foot for the surrounding area, which is considered to be one of the hottest and driest countries in South Australia.
Family
Police were alerted when the family was unable to contact the couple.
During the search, police found a hat, footprints and a motorcycle that they believed belonged to Mr. Stuart.
His body was eventually found 10 km north of where his vehicle broke down.
Mrs. Thomson was seen because she had worn her dirty white T-shirt inside out so that she would be more visible; the searchers recognized that this could have saved her from it.
Body Found
The body of Dylan Stuart, 29, was found by searchers at 2 p.m. Tuesday 100 km north of Roxby Downs.
“After waiting several hours for her return, the woman left the 4×4 on foot,” SA police said.
Ms Thomson was found on Monday afternoon in a stream line some 100km north of Roxby Downs by a search plane and taken to hospital where she was treated for dehydration at the local hospital.
Mrs. Thomson was detected because she had worn her dirty white T-shirt inside out so that she would be more visible; the searchers recognized that this could have saved her.
“I saw a white T-shirt and a red bag,” Marree pilot and publican Phil Van Wegen told ABC.
‘The shirt was pretty dirty; she had been in the bush for a while so she turned the shirt inside out to make it whiter and stand out a lot better and we got to see her, very lucky.’
An air and ground search intensified on Monday with local police, PolAir, family members, local station owners and planes involved.
“Sadly, the body of the 29-year-old Roxby Downs man was located near Gregory Creek, approximately 100km north of Roxby Downs, just before 2pm,” police said in a statement Tuesday night.
There are no suspicious circumstances and the police will prepare a report for the coroner.
