SIDECAR racer Olivier Lavorel has died of his injuries, four months after the Isle of Man TT crash that killed his teammate Cesar Chanal.
Event organizers initially misidentified the pair, mistaking them for each other, following the tragedy in the first Sidecar race of the 2022 TT.
The two French newcomers to the TT were airlifted to hospital after the first lap crash at Ago’s Leap.
An investigation into Chanal’s death confirmed that the men had been wearing the wrong dog tags, which led to the error in identifying them.
Lavorel was 35 years old at the time of the accident and Chanal 33.
A statement from TT bosses said organizers were “deeply saddened” to learn of Lavorel’s death.
They added: “Olivier suffered serious injuries in an incident during the first lap.

“The accident occurred at Ago’s Leap, just under a mile into the field, and also claimed the life of Olivier’s teammate Cesar Chanel.
“Olivier was airlifted to Liverpool hospital before being transferred to a hospital in France at the end of June, where he continued his treatment.
“Both Olivier and César were newcomers to the Isle of Man TT races in 2022, but they were an experienced pairing, scoring numerous wins and podium finishes in the French F1 and F2 National Sidecar Championships.
Everyone at the Isle of Man TT races express their deepest condolences to Olivier’s family, friends and loved ones at this tragic time.”
Lavorel’s death is his sixth since the 2022 Isle of Man TT, equaling the highest total of deaths in the event in 1970.
