2 Million Cosori Air Fryers Recalled Due to Fire, Burn Hazards

If you’re obsessed with your air fryer (guilty!), you’re going to want to check the brand, make, and model number before whipping it out for dinner tonight: A whopping 2 million Cosori air fryers have been voluntarily recalled after more than 200 reports of the devices catching fire, melting, overheating, smoking, and even causing minor burns, according to a statement released Thursday from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

In a statement on Cosori’s website, the company said that faulty wiring could be to blame for these incidents. “After a thorough investigation, we determined that in extremely rare circumstances, the closed-end crimp connections within the recalled air fryers—which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires—can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards,” the statement said.

In addition to the 2 million recalled air fryers sold in the US, about 250,000 were sold in Canada, and more than 20,000 were sold in Mexico, the CPSC said. The air fryers were sold at Best Buy, Target, and Home Depot stores, as well as various online retailers including the Cosori online shop; Amazon; Bed Bath & Beyond; Dorama; eBay; Home Goods; Kohl’s; Lowe’s; Macy’s; QVC; Staples; Vesync; Walmart; Wayfair; Wellbots; and Woot. The affected products were sold from June 2019 through December 2022 and cost between $70 and $130.

The recalled air fryers were produced in black, gray, white, blue, and red colorways, and were available in two different sizes: 3.7-quart or 5.8-quart. If you have one of these in your home, check the model number (which will be printed on the label on the bottom of the appliance) for one of the following:

If the air fryer in your kitchen fits the above description and has one of these model numbers, you should stop using it immediately. After all, the products are malfunctioning in a pretty serious way: They’ve caused minor, superficial burn injuries in at least 10 people and, in 23 cases, caused minor property damage, per the CPSC statement. In other words, it’s not worth taking your chances with a recalled air fryer.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to fork over the cash for a new one: Those affected are entitled to either a replacement unit or a different Cosori product. You can register for either at recall.cosori.com, per the CPSC statement. (You won’t need a receipt, but you will need to submit photos of the recalled unit.)
