Hummus recipes - Dr. Axe

Who doesn’t love hummus? You can spread the creamy dip on crackers, dunk fresh-cut veggies in it, spread it on toast and more. Plus, there are so many hummus recipes you can try.

Beware of store-bought brands that can be filled with preservatives and other less-than-desirable ingredients, though. Instead, try making your own hummus recipes.

This dip is so easy to make, delicious and good for you. Plus, hummus can last up to a week in the refrigerator — enough time to make sure everyone gets a taste!

I recommend using natural sweeteners like raw honey, real maple syrup or organic coconut palm sugar to get the most nutrients out of these hummus recipes. Also always substitute in grass-fed dairy or goat milk, replace table salt with sea salt or kosher salt, and replace canola and vegetable oil with coconut oil or ghee.

Hummus Recipe Ideas

Here are my favorite healthy hummus recipe ideas from around the internet. I like to make a different flavor each week and have it on hand, so whenever I want to reach for a snack I have something tasty and healthy to munch on!

1. Avocado Hummus

A cross between guacamole and traditional hummus, this green version is packed with nutrients, courtesy of the avocado, and full of flavor.

2. Baba Ghanoush

This Levantine dip veers from traditional hummus because it uses eggplant as its star ingredient. This one is best served warm, but it will keep in the fridge for several days.

3. Black Bean Hummus With Lime and Cumin

In this healthy hummus recipe, chickpeas are swapped out for black beans. The addition of lime juice, green chiles and cumin gives this dip a little extra zest, making it a perfect appetizer for your next sports party.

4. Avocado Hummus With Coriander and Lemon

Give your hummus a south-of-the-border edge with this coriander-infused version. Throw in the optional chipotle chili sauce for some extra kick. Try it on your tacos or as a dip for your next Mexican night!

If you’re a fan of Trader Joe’s cilantro jalapeno hummus, you’ll love this healthy copycat version. Just seven ingredients are necessary in this spicy, tasty dip!

7. Creamiest Homemade Hummus

The secret to making this hummus recipe the creamiest ever? Soaking dried chickpeas the night before. It might take a little pre-planning, but you’ll love the texture of this classic version!

8. Creamy Avocado, Artichoke & Kale Dip

Is there anywhere that kale hasn’t infiltrated? Luckily, you’ll love it in this lip-lickin’ good dip.

There are no beans in this one, but it’s full of flavor — you can thank the avocado and artichokes for that. Serve it fresh. This dip will keep for about two days in the fridge.
