DeKalb County police said 17-year-old De’Arius Woods was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was one of two people arrested at an apartment complex on Mountain Industrial Boulevard Wednesday night.
Police said Woods is being charged in connection with his involvement in a fatal shooting that happened earlier that day around 1:15 p.m. at the Quick Stop Food Mart in the 1100 block of North Hairston Road at Central Drive. Detectives said the man killed was an innocent bystander.

“We know there were people who shot each other. One person is in the hospital and the other is deceased,” confirmed DeKalb County Police Public Information Officer Sheira Campbell.

Police have not yet released the victim’s name, but several people in the community said he was kind, always smiled and wouldn’t hurt anyone.
A second man was rushed to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The police were trying to determine his role.
