Thierry Mugler Funeral: Manfred Thierry Mugler was a French couturier. He helped define ’80s power dressing, pioneered the celebrity-as-model phenomena, and pioneered a new fragrance category with Angel.
During his multidecade career, he has dressed Diana Ross, Tippi Hedren, and Demi Moore, and more recently, he has dressed Beyoncé, Cardi B, and Kim Kardashian West. At the 2019 Met Gala, the latter created a splash with her wet-look latex corseted gown.
A message from his official Instagram account confirmed this statement to his numerous fans;
“We are heartbroken to report the death of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on January 23rd, 2022. May his soul rest in peace”.
Sandrine Groslier, global brand president of Mugler fashion and perfumes, worked with Mugler for 27 years and described him as a “brilliant jack-of-all-trades” who permanently changed the world of fashion and beauty.
“He was hilarious, passionate, and insane at times, and he always understood how to pay honor to all women with a lot of heart, you’ve made it to the stars. Mr. Mugler, may you rest in peace.”
Mugler’s current creative director, Casey Cadwallader, remarked on Instagram,
“Manfred, I am so proud to have known you and to work inside your lovely universe.” You altered our perceptions of attractiveness, confidence, representation, and self-esteem. I will take your legacy with me in all I do. Thank you very much”.
He died at the age of 73.

The injury needed him to remove a piece of metal from his leg.
Despite the accident, Mugler never went to hospital because of his busy schedule.
But after warnings from his doctors he agreed to undergo surgery.

Mugler said he wanted to make the surgery “fun” and asked a surgeon to perform work on his chin at the same time.
“I said, ‘Let’s find a way to make this fun!’ I asked another surgeon if he could do some things to my chin, and then I was happy to get the bloody anesthesia.”
He also said he wanted his face to showcase the “progress” he went through over the years.
“I wanted my face to represent progress, because after years of being a thin, charming dancer, I wanted to be a warrior. I’ve done so much in my life. I’ve fought so much. I’m a superhero, so it’s normal to have the face of one.”

Mugler also spoke about a terrible gym accident that smashed his face, needing him to undergo reconstruction.
He told Yann Barthes in 2017: “I had a facial reconstruction following a serious gym accident that completely knocked my face down. My body is in perpetual construction.”
