According to Kilburn, Comaroff kissed her many times during meetings without her consent and once touched her thigh.
She also claimed she told him she was on vacation with her same-sex partner, emphasizing her partner’s pronouns in order to divert his unwanted attention away from her.
Kilburn told the New York Times in an interview that if she was found in a same-sex relationship in Africa, she could be forced into “corrective rape” or killed.
According to Kilburn, Comaroff allegedly made the rape remark with “a tone of delight.”
Several of the charges, according to the New York Times, were first detailed in the university’s newspaper, The Harvard Crimson. The lawsuit brings an end to a year-long legal battle over the charges.
Comaroff was found guilty of verbal violations of policy in gender-based harassment and professional behavior by Harvard. Still, he was not found guilty of inappropriate physical or sexual activity charges.
