The weight loss expert gave his verdict on why time restrictive eating works so well: “If you eat late at night, when your body is preparing for sleep, that can really throw your body out of sync.

“If you eat late at night, fat and sugar will hang around in your bloodstream for far longer, which is bad news for your heart and may also disrupt your sleep.”

What’s more, Dr Michael pointed out that the foods people tend to reach for late at night aren’t exactly fruits and vegetables that are filled to the brim with nutrients.

A study published in the journal of Obesity stated: “The body’s internal clock, the circadian system, increases hunger and cravings for sweet, starchy and salty foods in the evenings.
