Cable fragments have just been discovered in pancake and waffle mixes sold in Walmart stores across the country. As a result, Continental Mills has issued a recall for a single lot of Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix and is working with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and retailers to remove the affected products from shelves. The fragments found in the mixtures were reportedly from a cable used to clear the processing line at the manufacturing facility. As of March 23, Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix has been temporarily removed from Walmart online and Amazon. Fortunately, no injuries linked to the recalled product have been reported.
These just-add-water mixes were distributed across the country, meaning that shoppers in every state will need to keep an eye out. If you are worried about whether you have purchased one of the affected mixes, you can find out by looking for the following text on the packaging: UPC: 078742370828, lot code: KX2063, and best by date: 09/01/2023.
The FDA has announced a number of product recalls over the past few weeks, from baked goods to personal care items. A variety of Bantam Classic Bagels is currently being recalled due to being exposed to an undeclared egg allergen, leaving those with an egg allergy at risk of a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction. Skin-care brand Jergens is also in the middle of voluntarily recalling the Ultra Healing Moisturizer as the 3-oz. and 10-oz. sizes of the product were suspected to be contaminated with Pluralibacter gergoviae, a type of bacteria that can lead to infections in people with weakened immune systems, but don’t usually pose a significant risk to other people.

If you find that you have one of the affected pancake and waffle mixes, the FDA advises that you dispose of the product or return it to the store where you purchased it from. You will receive a replacement or refund. If you need more details, feel free to call the Recall Phone Hotline at 800-578-7832 between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. P.T., Monday through Friday. And if cable fragments have put you off packaged pancake mix for good, you could always make some pancakes from scratch instead for your next Sunday morning lie-in.
