Alison Mosshart Facts
- Alison had formed the punk rock band Discount, with some of her skateboarding friends, in her hometown of Vero Beach, when she was just about 17 years old. The band had recorded their first album, titled Ataxia’s Alright Tonight, when they were still in high school. They even began touring aggressively throughout the DIY punk underground in locations across North America and Europe.
- The band’s next album, titled Half Fiction (1997), was named the 50th ‘Greatest Pop-Punk Album of All Time’ by Rolling Stone magazine. Their final album, titled Crash Diagnostic, was released in 2000. After touring in support of the album, the band had played their last show in August 2000.
- While she was still touring with Discount, she had overheard English guitarist Jamie Hince who was playing music in a squat above where she and the band were staying. After some hesitation, she approached him and they started playing around with music ideas.
- Even after she returned to Florida, she continued writing songs with Jamie by sending her ideas over to London where he used to live at that time. After Discount disbanded in 2000, she moved to London and the duo officially started working on The Kills.
- She had tattooed the date of their first concert together on her left hand – February 14, 2002. In 2012, they released a photography book called Dream & Drive depicting the time they had spent together over the last decade.
- Through the record label Third Man Records, in the mid-2010s, she had released a book called Shark Infested Soda Fountain. It was a compilation of the pictures that she had taken while touring with the American rock supergroup The Dead Weather.
