Her Majesty has much responsibility on her plate, but she keeps a pretty solid self-care ritual when it comes to shuteye. She apparently maintains it each night, too. Hey—when something works, stick with it, right?

What are The Queen’s secrets? We know you’re curious! Well, one very important habit we’d all love to follow is she gets a restful 8 ½ hours of sleep each and every night, according to Glamour. Sounds pretty dreamy, right? Queen Elizabeth supposedly heads to Dreamland at 11 p.m., and she wakes up at 7:30 a.m. every morning.

What else does she do? Prior to turning in for the night, she reportedly reads for a bit and also gets in some walking during the day.

With so many individuals trying everything under the sun from supplements to sleeping aids and more, Queen Elizabeth seems to have her sleep routine down to a science.

When you think about it, as every parent knows, the most important thing to work on with an infant is to establish a consistent sleep schedule. What to Expect even says a regular sleep pattern is key for healthy sleeping as a baby—and for the future. Sleep Foundation indicates a regular routine at bedtime helps soothe cranky infants as well as their parents. Consistency helps kids get to sleep quicker and sleep better through the night.

So, doesn’t it make sense to keep up the routine and apply it as an adult? Of course, as we grow up, life gets in the way. But unless you are a nighttime worker, setting a regular sleep time may very well trick your body into a pattern. It works for The Queen, so it may be worth a good old try!

As far as Queen Elizabeth’s other daily habits that promote rejuvenating shuteye are concerned, it’s been proven that relaxing before bedtime is helpful, as is getting in exercise during the day. Getting some reading in before you snooze is linked to a plethora of benefits, including relieving stress from the day, an overall better quality of sleep, and long-term positive effects on your cognition.

The Queen has a routine before heading to sleep, and you should, too. According to Sleep Foundation, a relaxing activity you enjoy done consistently for a half-hour to an hour each night is very beneficial. Reading each night as Queen Elizabeth does is always a great idea, but you can also consider meditating, writing some letters, or even pampering yourself with a soothing essential oil bath.
