Superstar DJ Flume has revealed it was stage fright and anxiety that drove him to abuse alcohol.
The Sydney-born 30-year-old, whose real name is Harley Edward, talked about his trauma Saturday in an interview with The Age.
The gifted Grammy Award winning artist, who has played to thousands all over the world, made a series of startling admissions in the chat – including claiming he never felt like a performer.

To cope, he drank ‘three or four glasses of champagne’ before going on stage followed by a few more while he was performing.
After a show, he would open a bottle to celebrate, and continued this process at as many as six shows a week for months on end.

‘And before I knew it, I realised ‘Oh f**k, I’m an alcoholic’ he told the paper.
He says it all led him to make the drastic decision to quit the stage and concentrate on making music only in the studio.
Therapy, anti-depressants and mediation worked to beat the anxiety and the alcohol, the performer explained.

Rising to fame in his 20s, the talented performer, who is best known for his hits Never Be like You, Say It and You & Me, now back in Australia has the chance to surf, hang out with friends and not worry about deadlines.
Flume bravely first discussed his substance abuse problem two years ago.
Speaking to the My Friend Podcast , feared he was heading down the same path as DJ Avicii who died tragically, aged just 28, in 2018.
CFlume will tour Australia in November and December 2022.
